The central bank announced that it would stop issuing "good-as-new" dollar notes in 2023 for Chinese New Year
The carbon emissions produced by the extra processing required for these bank notes were deemed unsustainable
People are encouraged to use “fit-for-gifting” dollar notes even if they do not look new
A few people said that they would not mind using older notes even though the Chinese New Year tradition is to use new ones
