A SOUTH Australian father and daughter have revealed they are a couple, and have had a child together. John and Jenny Deaves reunited 30 years after Mr Deaves separated from Jenny’s mother. Jenny was 31 and just two weeks after meeting, father and daughter had sex. "John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults," Mrs Deaves told the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes tonight. "We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding." Their nine-month-old daughter Celeste, shown on TV, appears fit and healthy. Mrs Deaves said soon after reuniting with her father she began to see him as a man first and her father second. "I was looking at him, sort of going, oh, he’s not too bad," she said. "Like you might look at a man across the bar at a nightclub." Mrs Deaves brought two children, Samantha and Alex, into the relationship after splitting from her former partner. Mr Deaves admitted that he "initially" thought having sex with his daughter was wrong. "Emotions take over, as people no doubt realize, there are times during your life where emotions do rule the heart, it rules the head," he said. "I knew it was illegal, of course I knew it was illegal but you know, so what." Mrs Deaves said the physical relationship with her father was like "a sexual relationship with any other man". For Mr Deaves the sexual relationship was "absolutely fantastic". A South Australian police media spokesman said "the couple is being monitored".

I saw this on 60 minutes when they aired it on Aussie TV on Sunday and I got to say.... a lot of people are gobsmacked and very against the whole idea of them coming out of the closet, not because of any ethical issues but because of potential whiplash effects against the kid in question.

which is true. it can be argued that while they were two consenting adults who mutually agreed to enter an incestuous relationship, it's the kid that is being short changed as a result.

I spoke to a media friend in South Australia and she says that it's causing a frenzy over there.

I think the issue is stark naked as 'will a relationship which is incestous in nature stop a couple from falling in love'. It din stop them apparently.

Both of them never had a father-daughter relationship, the daughter stayed with the mum for 30 years and she met the father when she was 31. So its natural that they dun feel 'incestous' but they managed to take a step further to make it a love relationship. I think that's where the whole issue lies in, can love transient something so socially unacceptable as incest.

We often refer 'incest' most times to family violence, rapes from drunken parents, dark secrets running in the family...until it's been cast in our minds and the society that incest is evil committed, with all the meanings that ties along with 'evil' like immoral (which is a social reference), uncivilised (again social reference) and twisted (yes you guessed it).

Incest is nothing more forbidden than a prevention against bad DNA if there are offsprings. The rest of it being so 'wrong' are all in our mindset. Sorry to say this but in the centre of christianity, we do have our own reasons to believe and accept what happened to Adam's and Noah's family. Of course, those are merely myths (if you are a non-believer) or an unquestionable truth (if you believe in it). Point is, ask any christians and they will give you varying answers on how they accept the bible reference on both families.

But now we see it real, in picture and them living in some neighbourhood being someone's neighbour. The reality made a lot of people flipped.

Have you seen japanese porn with themes on incest? It made an industry by itself among themes like 'seductive teachers' and 'lurid sisters' and what not. In fact, such themes are in the mainstream! That means among us, there are people who like such ideas or else there will be nothing to feed that theme.

So instead of asking if the father is a hypocrite, should those among us who secretly love to watch porns on incestous theme ask ourselves first if we are the one who are hypocritical? (I'm not going to make any reference back on Adam lest it offends everybody) Incest is all in our mind, and yet the society is using it to both type-cast evil and arouse sexual desire, isn't that funny?

To me, I feel pity for that child. I do not know if incest is acceptable or not but of course I hope it remains either a porn theme or a myth. After all, I also think its no acceptable. Just thought that it is quite interesting to challenge the social norms and seeing that whenever we judge others, we inevitably judge ourselves as the society is but one big damn circle.

sorry to burst your bubble, but royal families in many MANY years gone by do inbreeding as well. their reasoning was to maintain the royal bloodline and not let it be diluted with commoner's blood.
