THE NEW PAPER

She was about to brush her teeth in the kitchen toilet on Wednesday night when she heard shouts coming from the carpark downstairs.

Curious, housewife Teo Guat Kheng, 61, peered out the window and saw four men shouting at each other and exchanging blows.

Speaking to The New Paper in Mandarin, Madam Teo said:"I shouted at them, 'Stop fighting, the police are coming!' But they didn't fall for it and continued to fight, so I called the police."

She said that the fight lasted for about 15 minutes at the carpark of Block 45, Toa Payoh Lorong 5, before the police arrived at around 10pm.

"I heard one of the residents shout for the men to put down a knife, but I didn't see any weapon," said Madam Teo, who lives on the 12th storey of Block 45.

Another witness told Lianhe Wanbao that he saw two men unloading four cardboard boxes from the boot of a taxi before the fight.

FIGHT

Mr Cai Zhen Yuan, 32, an air-conditioner service man, told Wanbao that four men had walked up to the two unloading the boxes.

After a brief exchange, the fight started. He said that the men punched and kicked each other.

The group of four ran off, but not before one of them threw a knuckle duster emblazoned with a smiley face on a grass patch nearby.

The police arrived in time to catch the first two men as they tried to flee.

A police spokesman said that they were alerted to the incident at 9.42pm on Wednesday night and two men were arrested at the scene.

A 20-year-old man was arrested for possession of a weapon and another man, 28, was arrested for consorting with a person carrying a weapon.

The New Paper understands that contraband cigarettes were also found.

Wanbao reported that police and residents combed the area and found a knuckle duster.

A small package wrapped in white paper was also found and residents told Wanbao that there was a wad of hell notes inside.

Mr Cai also told Wanbao that the taxi driver who had dropped the two men off had tried to drive away once the fight began, but ended up knocking into a parked truck before leaving. Neighbours TNP spoke to said that they were not sure what the fight was about and that the commotion could be heard throughout the whole block.

Ms Emilia Soriano, 43, a maid, told TNP that a large crowd gathered at the carpark after the police arrived.

"It was like watching a movie," she said.

Said Madam Teo: "I was about to go to sleep, but I couldn't sleep after witnessing all that commotion. I hope such a thing never happens again."
