PAP A C Museum got $650K to spend on stolen art, but no money for needy citizens
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Fucking PAP and shit times try to cover this up. Why no news on this at all in the local media? Apparently, these dumb fucks at Asian Civilisation Museum bought a $650,000 bronze statue from an art dealer in New York that was stolen from an Indian Temple. Now the Indian govt is asking for it, and balless and stupid Gay Loong has to return it to them. They should hold the statue as compensation for the damages caused by Indian citizens during the LI riots. ACM bought 30 pieces of art from this New York dealer. This piece alone costs $650K. It boggles my mind what the spend on the collection. This is art that does not even represent singapore. What particular significance has this statue got to SIngapore heritage and history? Really, the PAP has no accountability. If BBC never reported this, will we ever know? Got so much money to spend on shit like that, but no money to give sinkie student scholarships, or needy people free medical coverage, etc? 70% are really fucked up. Singapore to return 'stolen' 11th Century bronze to India A Singapore museum will return to India an 11th Century sculpture believed to have been stolen from that country. The Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM) bought the artwork for $650,000 (£420,000) from New York dealer Art of the Past in 2007. The company's manager later admitted selling stolen Indian antiquities, including the bronze being returned. The allegations first came to light during a 2012 court case against the firm for trafficking antiquities. The sculpture of Hindu goddess Uma Parameshvari is thought to have been stolen from a Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu in southern India. Looted Indian antiquities' The decision to return the item came after discussions between Singapore's National Heritage Board and the Indian government body looking after its antiquities, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The ASI submitted an official request for the return of the sculpture in May, according to the museum. "While there is no conclusive proof that the sculpture was stolen from a Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu, India, ACM took note of the confession of Aaron Freedman, who was the manager of Art of the Past, of dealing in looted Indian antiquities and of criminal possession of 150 stolen objects," the museum said in a statement. It was one of 30 objects ACM bought from the art dealer, although none of the others are thought to be listed as stolen. The ASI was reportedly allowed to view them, anyway. The museum said it will take legal action to get compensation for the apparent fraud. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
