Between 2001 and 2014, of the international students at secondary and junior college levels who were granted permanent residency on their own merit, around one-quarter were on scholarships.

One example is the ASEAN scholarship, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education Hawazi Daipi during an update in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 18), in response to a question asked by Opposition Member of Parliament Png Eng Huat.

He added that there is no tuition grant at the secondary and junior college level and that scholarship holders are required to attain the “A” Levels or equivalent, as part of their scholarship obligations. More than 99 per cent of them attained the “A” Levels or equivalent.
