Umno needs keyboard warriors to counter slander, allegations, and negative perception


PASIR GUDANG: Umno needs to address the slander, allegations and negative perceptions against the party which are spread through social media by having more of its own cyber warriors.

Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this was needed because perception was formed now through slander that is being spread at a much faster and easier rate than before. "The party needs to have more keyboard warriors because we are dealing with the question of perception against reality, the truth against falsehood and the spreading of slander which is done at one's fingertips. "The cyber space platform is as important as the physical platform now because it is not about face to face communication but Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram," said Najib who is the Prime Minister at the opening Pasir Gudang Umno division meeting here today.

He said the opposition have used these tools on cyberspace to their advantage, and it was important for Umno to tackle the matter. "The opposition does not need to do much as they will create questions in the minds of people that will put Umno and Barisan Nasional in a bad light. "In today's crisis, because they (opposition) know how to manipulate this new platform, it has caused our (Umno's) position to be weaker than before," he said. Earlier in his speech, Najib said the source of Umno's strength at the national level depends largely on the Johor Umno. "If we want Umno to remain strong and respected, then our stronghold of Johor Umno must be defended,” he said.
