Thumbs up Ah Neh Demands The Right To Be A Public Nuisance!

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Glad our PAP government has the common sense to ban their musical instruments. It's noisy, irritating and quite out of tune. Many of the folks living around Little India are irritated by the noise. It's a different matter if they had a modern orchestra or Kate Perry singing for them as they carry the kavadi.

Dear Sir,

I wrote this feedback on behalf of all Indian Singaporeans as Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) chose not to act for the community though feedback had been sent to their FB page.

Thaipusam celebration is marred by the fact raised on the 1973 law on playing of musical instruments in public places. I would like to bring to your attention that singing and playing of instruments are the essence of any indian festivities. And for the devotee not to feel the strain on his long walk from Perumal Temple to Tank Road temple is being eased by the supporters singing and playing instruments.

The PAP government would do well not to underestimate the public perception of its laws on the Indian community and how these very rules could contribute to unnecessary racial tension.

Many Singapore Indians feel that why is it that the local police would not stop a Chinese lion dance troupe (or a Chingay festival), and next time, the participants should perform a Chinese lion dance during Thaipusam instead. Why is it that the police never stop the playing of Kompang during Malay weddings as well?

Below are some of the comments from our local Indians which reflects the general sentiments of the Indian community in Singapore:

These discriminatory laws are causing unnecessary racial tensions and it is not even the fault of the Singapore Chinese, Singapore Malays, the fault lies with the law of Singapore and the Singapore government. I hope all Singaporeans from all races will support us local Indians in getting back the lively Thaipusam we use to have decades ago.

I am all for the ban of alcohol as it may lead to disorderly behaviour. But the whole arrest incident stem from the fact that the supporters felt that the core essence of celebration is being snatched away from Indians thus could have led to the protest..

I humbly request your office to request the authorities to look into this matter and a favourable outcome is most awaited by all..

Thank you, Sir..
