A commuter told The Straits Times that a power failure occurred at about 9am as the train was pulling out of Buona Vista station. She heard a loud bang and the train then jolted. Some lights in the train also went off momentarily. In a tweet at 9.17am, SMRT alerted commuters to 10-minute delay from Serangoon stations to Buona Vista station towards Harbour Front station due to a power fault.
