A 48-year-old unemployed man is believed to have been set upon by angry onlookers after he molested a housewife who was walking to the market.
The 35-year-old woman had just got out from her car to get to the market in Sungai Jelok here on Tuesday when a stranger fondled her buttocks, said OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab.
"The woman screamed for help and her father, who was waiting in the car, ran after the culprit.
This caught the attention of people around there," he said.
"A crowd gathered around the man to prevent him from escaping," he added.
The housewife told the police that the man sustained head injuries after falling into a drain while attempting to escape.
However, ACP Ab Rashid said that the police were not discounting the possibility that the man was set upon by the people.
