According to a Shin Min Daily News report, the man is a regular sight at street corners in Boon Keng. Despite being all skin and bones, the man is well-known for refusing gifts from concerned members of the public. What little money he has on hand he is also known for donating to others. He is often seen rummaging through rubbish bins, and sometimes visits the nearby hawker centre for his spartan meals. Contrasting sharply with his ragged appearance, unkempt hair and perceptible odor, he appears cheery and talkative when approached. Shin Min reporters found that he is not homeless, having a place to stay in Boon Keng, and while he is not currently employed, he does have savings to live on.
