Former FT lecturer of Singapore Poly jailed for assaulting cabby May 27th, 2013 | Author: Editorial Mr Papkin (Photo TODAY) A former Singapore Polytechnic lecturer has been sentenced to six weeks’ jail by the court today (27 May), for hitting a taxi driver with an umbrella and punching him. David Mark Papkin, an American holding a Singapore PR, was charged in court last year (15 Feb 2012) with causing hurt to a taxi driver at a traffic light junction on 14 Apr 2011. The 47-year-old had drinks at Clarke Quay prior to taking the cab. During the cab journey, he had been complaining about cab fare charges. When the cab stopped at a red light at Dover Road, Papkin alighted from the cab and walked away without paying the fare. The victim followed Papkin to get the money, but ended up getting punched. Papkin repeatedly hit the taxi driver with an umbrella until it broke. The victim had to take 10 days of medical leave. According to LinkedIn information of Mr Papkin, he graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Information Systems in 1996 and 1998 respectively. He was a system administrator, network engineer, system engineer and network service supervisor working in various companies in the US since 1984. While working, he studied part-time to obtain his degrees. After graduating with a Master’s degree in 1998, he worked briefly for about one year as a data communication analyst in another US multinational company before landing a training job in Singapore in 2001. He worked as a trainer in Netassist Services teaching Microsoft classes for about a year before he was recruited by Singapore Polytechnic. He was a lecturer in Singapore Polytechnic for about 10 years from end 2001 to end of 2011. He quit Singapore Polytechnic in Oct 2011 and joined F5 Networks Singapore as senior network support engineer, providing remote technical product assistance to customers and partners of F5 Networks. Papkin is currently out on a $20,000 bail pending his appeal to the High Court. .
