I finally decided to sign up to this forum (not a chiongster although i have been around for a while and reading all the wonderful reports written by u all)


Hope to cut this short so its not a WoT.


Okay to be honest, this is related to my school project. I know posting here is a bit strange, but its about geylang so can hope can help me out?


My project is actually about looking at prostitutes/chiongsters and how they interact with the different spaces/places in geylang. (i'm studying architecture..)

Like do the prostitutes live in geylang and work downstairs etc etc. Or where do the girls eat? Do you all chiongsters eat at zhi char places before going for some fun times or after that?

Its about understanding how geylang works as a whole la, not just the places to have sex.



So, just wondering if got anybody who is a regular chiongster (or i guess most ppl here are regulars haha) can and willing to answer some questions? Or got contacts maybe can bring me around and look see look see? I'm willing to offer some $$$ too..

May be you can do something first. Can you design a nice whore house for GL, something like the old Roman harlem, that will become a landmark in Singapore. Bonkster, you are almost close to what I am thinking.
You know, in Australia (or some other city which I could not recall the name), you can pay US$300 per entry into a beautiful whorehouse, stay in there for 24 hrs, and bonk as many girls as you want, and eat & drink & workout in their gym. All for $300. How nice if this "student" Iceeyez can come up with a wonderful architecture in GL where you pay entrance fee of S$300 for 24 hours, and there are all the best Spore zhi char stores in there? You can BED (bonk-eat-drink) over and over again. Bro Iceeyez can post his concept on www.stomp.com.sg. May be it will catch Khaw Boon Wan's eyes, who knows?

Young thread starter , I suggest u change your project topic cause commercial sex is detrimental to many , esp youngsters like u and your friends. If the people in the forum help u and later your friends come to know about your topic , I am afraid that many kids will be led astray too early and neglect their studies when they come into contact with your project .

Change to good food in geylang or singapore maybe . U can find the beef kway tiao. the famous ' zhu zar tang ' which I feel put abit too much pepper , some pratas are nice , the other stretch from lorong 20 onwards to 40 plus have the claypot rice , ' mee hun kway ' , soya bean , smelly beancurd and vietnam food .

ps : Do not venture into the red light district area alone if u r too young , esp the red light district . I cannot guarantee your safety and don't say I never warn u and your friends esp u trying to do this undercover reporting , the people there sure will f**k u upside down .

Go research global warming , H1N1 etc better .

I just zap your points cause I disapprove of your research which will probably led to more youngsters being led astray after reading your research .

For my project i'm not so much doing research on one building etc. But architecture is also urban planning, like bigger scale area planning. Trying to figure out what makes a red light district, figuring out how the spaces/buildings/places/people all interact with each other in geylang. Yups.

So key in understanding how geylang is like starts from understanding the people using it. How people use the different spaces. Brothels, zhi char stall, gambling dens, sex toy shops, convenience shops etc etc.

No la, i'm not promoting prostitution, nor condemning it. Its just about understanding how a red light district functions, how it fits into the context of a city. Some people might say.. its a 'necessary evil', fulfilling needs of people (for many reasons ppl have needs), but ya just seeing a red light district through the eyes of a urban planner

And i'm not some siao gina anymore la 25 already. Doing this project as part of my masters dissertation so its also not some like secondary sch project or anything. The people eventually reading my project are all much older tutors also.

Yeah i understand the difficulties and dangers of undertaking such a project but somebody eventually also has to got to see how red light districts/prostitutions work. Chiongsters/prostitutes are also people, and everybody prefers nicer/more convenient places/areas to live/visit right?


Yeah know lotsa good food exist in geylang, so quite interesting to understand how good food places co-exist with brothels in geylang.. at least to me la haha


So really hoping maybe can find some experienced and helpful chiongster can maybe tell me more about how geylang works how prostitutes live and work in geylang?

I'm serious about this project not just suka suka coz prostitution is like some exciting or WOW topic then do. Hope some bros can help out?

Haha no la, this is not a design project (yet.. maybe at later stages of project).. Architecture is not just about single buildings but also got the part of urban planning, urban cityscape. Like talking about larger areas/spaces. So yups i'm researching on a red light district. Trying to understand more about how the spaces/people/buildings/activities interact with each other in a red light district.

Hello there! No la not that young anymore. 25 already.

I'm not promoting prostitution or condemning it. Some people see it as some sort of 'necessary evil'? I can understand why red light districts exist, coz everybody has needs and wants and desires (for whatever reason i'm not judging).

What i'm trying to do for my project is trying to understand how a red light district works. Not just talking abt like u know CAT A or cat B or prices or how transactions work. But trying to understand things like what people do before visit brothel, or how prostitutes live/work at the same place. How does all the good food that u mentioned can co-exist with brothels in a red light district. How it all works out. How people use the spaces/buildings etc.

Coz i figured that chiongsters and prostitutes are all humans and everybody also wants a nicer place/area to live/work in. Understanding how people use the spaces, people behaviour, how a red light district exists in the larger context, like in a big city/country.

Yups, My tutor/advisor knows abt my topic and i know its not a easy topic to do on, and may be dangerous, but its something that not much research has been done on, and i see it as an opportunity to contribute something? I'm serious about this research not anyhow play play or choose this topic because its a "WOW" kinda topic or anything la, so really hope that some experienced and kind chiongsters willing to answers some questions?


So anybody willing to maybe can answer a few questions or maybe got some contacts or willing to bring me ard look see look see? Would really really appreciate it a lot.

Thanks for the clarification. I've dropped you a pm. Let me drive you around if need be. I know of people who did similar projects in uni too. Your project focuses more on the hardward, the projects I knew of focuses more of the software. Actually interviewed FL and Ladyboys then.

May I suggest you expand part of your study to include transportation too? Part of urban planning. Geylang is well-serviced by the East West MRT Line. Circle Line, KPE, ECP, PIE (even CTE is nearby). If you were to take all the buildings in the same layout and put it on Jurong Island, will it been as successful? Will people still come/cum? (cheesy, yes). Then you suggest an alternative site for Geylang in your study if you can.

So, recognise the factors that made Geylang a success. Then see if you can replicate the factors elsewhere. Since there have always been talk of shifting Geylang away (as a result of the Master Blue Plan), why not pretend that you have been tasked to find a new location for legalised vice? Forget about illegal gambling dens... interesting but really pointless.
