An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

There is NOTHING GOOD from being close with nor befriend with USA.

Look at the EU & NATO now. ALL in DEEP SHIT. Disintegrating. Broke. Chaos. Bleeding. Instable.

That is all for being close with and befriending USA.

In particular, they are being killed and attacked and hated and raped for being alliance with USA and adoption of American views and values. The are chosen as target because of being WITH USA, and attacking and killing them is deemed as part of conflict and war against USA.

Stupid CB LHL want to get us into these shit?

WASHINGTON, DC — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has lauded the deep people-to-people ties between Singapore and the United States, adding that these links have served as the foundation for strong bilateral relations.

"The fact that there are so many Singaporeans here in America — living, working, studying, some married here and some are visiting here — shows how wide and deep our (bilateral) relations are," said PM Lee during a National Day reception held at the Singapore Embassy in Washington, DC, on Sunday evening (July 31 in Washington DC, Aug 1 morning in Singapore).

"It is not just between the governments and between the companies, but between people too," he said. "People who have friends, contacts, deep relationships and this is the link that has meant a lot and benefitted both sides."

More than 500 Singaporeans working and living throughout the US gathered at the embassy, with some driving for hours from surrounding states to attend the event.

The menu for the reception included Singaporean dishes such as mee siam, rojak and satay.

PM Lee urged overseas Singaporeans to keep themselves updated with events in Singapore and South-east Asia.

"There are many changes happening around us in South-east Asia," he said, listing the situation in the South China Sea as well as developments in Malaysia and Indonesia as issues that have an impact on Singapore.

"All around us we see things happening and we need to be alive and alert to them."

Commenting on how former President S R Nathan had suffered a stroke over the weekend, PM Lee said that: "Our thoughts and prayers go to him and his family."

For many Singaporeans attending the event, it was an opportunity to network and get a taste of home.

“It is always nice to get a chance to eat Singaporean food and more importantly to catch up with Singaporeans,” said Mr Daryl Sng, 38, a senior consultant based in Washington, DC.

“What PM said emphasises how longstanding Singapore’s relations with the US are. It is about personal relationships with Americans,” Mr Sng said, adding that the Singaporean community in the US plays the role of a bridge between America and Asia.

“The Singaporean community (in Boston) may not be very big but we help each other out,” said Mr Eric Chua, 35, a postgraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He drove his family of six for eight hours to attend the event.

Reflecting on the role that Singaporeans play in American society, Mr Chua said, “We are all ambassadors of our country… we have a reputation to upkeep as different standards are expected of Singaporeans.”

According to the US Census Bureau, there were more than 30,000 Singaporeans living in the US as of 2014.

PM Lee arrived in Washington DC on Sunday. He will be in the US until Wednesday — the first official visit by a Singaporean Prime Minister in more than 30 years. This visit, initiated by US President Barack Obama, marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

While in Washington DC, PM Lee has been put up at the Blair House. Situated across the White House, the Blair House is the official guest house of the American president.

On Monday, PM Lee will meet Secretary of the Treasury Jacob Lew, Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter and Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker. The Prime Minister will also attend a reception hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce and US-Asean (Association of South-east Asian Nations) Business Council.

The highlight of the visit will be astate dinner on Tuesday — a first for PM Lee in this black-tie affair attended by a who’s who in US politics and show business with links to Singapore. He will be the first South-east Asian leader to be given a state dinner by Mr Obama during his eight years in the White House.

High-end American beef and yellow blossoms symbolising the friendship between Singapore and America will feature prominently in the banquet involving around 200 guests.
