bros unles u r xchanging a huge sum lik SGD10k n above it doesnt realy matter where u change it so long u dont do it at the bank or at the airport. The saving of the so-called good-exchange rates may not be enough to cover ur transport fee if u are only change $500 the usual recommendation is to change a few hundred S$ worth of foreign currency (anywhere in SG) enough to tie u through the 1st few days of ur trip subsequently u may consider change the rest at the place u visit just bring along extra SGD. 4 big ticket item u may consider charge them 2 ur cards if u need extra cash u may withdraw from ur local bank account via the foreign ATM. Yes all these at token of fees but it saves u from carrying 1000 of dollars with u. Traveller cheque is passe and almost useless in asia. remember use world favourite card AMEX

Mastercard, VISA also can? Not just token fees (bank charges) for ATM withdrawals, but the exch rate SUCKS. You can be assured it's lower than than human "hole in the wall" (aka money changers). For emergency purpose, so spare home currency (keep in htl safe) is best.
