This is a real classic, when the THB was pegged to the USD, it was somewhat good for the THB ~ when it was floated, it HALVED in value reaching somewhere in the pits of 55 ~ 56 per USD (1998 crisis)

Bro MF is right. I was in Punket on 1998 for seminar. At the time, the rate was round 29-30. Cheers.

Key here is link to USD. If USD slides, THB gains. So it's not strong THB on it's own, only relative to USD. Likewise, you see USD vs sgd at 1.5+ now vs 1.7+ in earlier years.

Hope springs eternal for many bros here (understandably so). But signs now don't look too bright in short term... Some lobby LOS now expects usd/bht to hit high 32 by year end (think not far fetched). PM Surayud's adamant will not allow breach below 30... Quick, let's ask some clairvoyant and crystal ball for a reading
