found out that my hotel is actually Hotel Ciputra at Jln Letjend S Parman. there is a Lido karaoke, health centre and bar next to it. any idea whether its a good place to hang out? don't think will have time to check out other scenes due to the short time here.

You can try walking to Medika which is about 300m away from
your hotel. But be VERY VERY CAREFUL of that area!

It's a Gang Land... so try not to walk alone there if you can.
go in the early evening and stay away from there at night.

Stay away from the Highway, under the bridge especially!

Medika is a Bar with live band. local music only
With mixed indonesian and local chinese patrons.

ST is provided and cheapest around. last check is Rp100k
but I'm sure price is increased by now.

Other joints is nearby.. just next door
you can check it out...

But I've never been to those except to Medika.

I only go for drink and music.. never had ST there
so I can't comment on facilities and services

Action in HC in Jakarta is unlike what you get here and in Malaysia.

Don't worry, for sure I'm careful in such areas. And I'm looking for the areas, not for trouble, thats a different thing. I don't need any trouble and didn't get it yet even at 11pm under a highway. Most times I got:

In general the Indons are extremly friendly ppl, right? Bad luck is possible everywhere even in SG.

This place is way out of the Kota area!
Though not very far, if not for the traffic during the day!

It's near Hotel Ciputra, i dunno exactly the street name.
But the road leading to Daan Magot.

The fun place in Medika are quite OK!
Since this joint are usually protected.

But it's the surrounding roads... lots of ganster and robbers.

I've encounterd personally and witness incidents before!

But.. Do try your charm and luck during the day!
Hang around at the shopping mall! Lots of babes I tell you!
it's an eye-feast!... and easy catch for you for sure!

There's 3 universities around the Hotel/Shopping Mall
so you know what qualities they have there...

Not forgetting the infamous Tri Sakti uni...

You really know your way around jakarta. exactly where you said it is. i have been to the mall but don't know whether the babes are of that character, thus do not know how to approach them. there is a pub in the mall and will check it out tonight.

Not everybody is like you or yours truly who can stroll alone nonchantly late at nite and in the wee hours of the morning through so-called trouble areas not just in Indoland but elsewhere as well. We can handle situations but that comes from not just nature but nurture too.
Both rain and moon are to be commended in sounding out the warning to the samsters in general.
I have many times been chastised by well meaning friends about my, in their view, recklessness and overconfidence. I might have considered their thinking as overcautious or even kiasi and kiasu but then I do fully understand that different people have different exposure and perspectives.
Its good to be careful but its more fun to be adventurous.
