KTVs can up prices by taking advantage but......in the long term they also lose out.
Some perverted economic logic at work here- supply up, demand down, but prices still on the up??..this can only happen in a centrally planned economy, not in a free-enterprise economy..
But as many bros say, its the quantity, variety, anonymity and privacy that draws us back to the motherland for this kind of fun..
I think you fail your basic economics.

Demand in general is down in CP this year - PZL is hard business now, KTV not always full except some KTVs on weekends, you also see Canton Fair also not full house like last year.
Supply hard to say up, I think over the last year, because of decreasing demand, and the poor business analysis of the KTV managers, the gals are actually earning less than they did over the last few years - at least this is feedback I got, maybe they lie to me. So the gals who are good quality might have found sugar daddies, or moved to Shanghai and BJ, I know some gals who were 5-15-20 now become catwalk models in other cities. In general if they are good quality they can find other jobs.
What is left is the poorer quality ones, whose other alternative is working in factory or massage place or flowershop earning 2000-4000 RMB/month. Working in a KTV earning between 10,000 and 15,000 is a much better option.
The price increase in KTV is not caused by inflation. What is occurring is that KTV owners are unwilling to cut their own profit to sustain a business and want to milk and kill their cash cow. So what they do is raise the prices across the bar because it doesn't hurt them to do so and attract gals.
Chinese business practices a bit strange. For example if business fall, what Chinese business try to do is to raise the prices to recoup the loss in revenue. Of course this chases off their loyal customers but it's never very far-sighted.

Not all KTVs allow the freedom to pick and leave. My friend has done so at some KTVs like Lihao.
But the problem is the KTVs that allow you to pick and leave are those that are cheaper to party in.
Again the problem is not in the cost of the KTV which is still manageable if you are disciplined (Last month partied with 3 other bros, and every night spend <300RMB on KTV cost), but the arbitrary nature of they pricing the gals rather than letting the free market decide on the cost.

PZL business slow down? Well I've stop going to PZL for my past few trips so didn't know their business is slowing down.
I'm not so sure on the Chinese business practices but I do know that when business is slow and not many customers the hotel will lower their rate which is during CNY.

Bro, why don't u try BBS if u don't like KTV, u can find some gems in the BBS and the price is 250 (ST) and 600 (LT).
Better alternative get girls from shoe shop, girls selling clothes , shoes, or even fast food joints. Even starbucks girl will follow you. If you lousy finally u can surely get one in pzl. No need ktv. I never get girls from ktv.
You also have to put into account that the GDP and average income of China and Singapore. Like in SZ min average income of normal worker is 1500RMB, these personnel if want to cheong ,how many months muz they save?
Alot of samsters are complaining becoz places are jacking up prices and hoping to lure more MM to their joint. Seriously, if there are joints that are okay and prices are relatively better, why go for higher joints.
In SG, back then i usually cheong places like MG, Katong, TH these type of places and bottom down and average spending of SGD50 to 100 per pax. Gers can get SGD50 per piece although they butterfuly. Can negotiate with gers and also depending on your chemistry with the ger, can get 300 to 500 overnite.
Bottom down no matter where you are, there are ways to cheong.
Well for me in Singapore, there wun be gals willing to go back with pork chop like me lah
