Arsenal prepare £16m move for Marseille’s Stephane Mbia
Arsenal are preparing to make a £16m transfer bid for 24-year-old Marseille midfielder Stephane Mbia, according to latest reports. Despite Mbia only joining Marseille last July from Rennes, in a move that cost a reported £10.5million, Arsenal are looking to tempt the Cameroon international from the French side during the transfer window. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder rejected a move to the Premier League with Everton last summer. Mbia has already been linked to a move to Bayern Munich this summer, after helping Marseille to their first League title since 1992. (The Metro) With Arsene Wenger still reportedly keen on snaping up an experienced defensive minded midfielder the Arsenal boss is apparently trying to capture Cameroonian international Stephane Mbia, but is there any chance Marseille will consider selling a player who only arrived in the summer and also helped guide the French side to their first domestic title in 18 years? The 24 year old has long since been linked with a move to the Emirates but ended up making a move from Rennes to the Stade Velodrome and subsequently had a great season at the club and was expertly converted into a centre back by Didier Deschamps. Mbia may well still be tempted by a move to the north London club but whether any deal can be done is another thing entirely. Wenger has been looking for a defensive midfielder to play alongside Cesc Fabregas and has been impressed by the form of Mbia’s fellow countryman Alex Song, but is reportedly still looking for a player to offer more steel to his side.

Arsenal Target £7m Striker Dubbed the ‘New Thierry Henry’: Wenger Sends Scouts to Watch Modeste
Arsenal are being linked with a move for up and coming French Under 21 international Anthony Modeste. The Nice striker has been on loan as Ligue 2 side Angers this season and has shown great potential that has alerted Gunners boss Arsene Wenger who has sent his scouts to monitor his progress. The striker has been somewhat ambitiously compared to Barcelona star Thierry Henry and has greatly improved whilst on loan at the Loire based club where he scored 18 goals in an excellent season. He has also excelled in Under 21 duty where he has scored six goals in 14 matches leading many to believe he will return to the first team picture at Nice next term. Ironically Modeste’s attempts to secure a run in the Nice first team may depend on whether Loic Remy, another Arsenal target, leaves the club this summer. Many would wonder whether Wenger really needs to bring in yet more untried talent but perhaps the Frenchman believes a move for the powerful forward is too good an opportunity to turn down.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
Relax... this transfer window got world cup, might not be a good idea to rush decisions. look at other clubs, they also barely making any moves.
Signings quality players is necessary, but those cheap unproven potential players should not be neglected too. 1 Striker done. I am looking for Mbia if that is true, 1 defender, 1 gk, and some unknown youngsters. No need Gourcuff if Cesc stays, either one will shine for the club. Merida already left us, which is within my calculations too. Eduardo and Rosicky are the bigger names that may rake in some cash for us.

Arsenal set to announce £7m deal for French defender
ARSENAL are believed to be close to announcing they have signed French defender Laurent Koscielny from Lorient. The 24-year-old centre-back has been the subject of speculation since the end of the season, but it appears the deal is now close to being finalised. Arsene Wenger, working for the media at the World Cup in South Africa, confided: “There has been an approach for Koscielny and there still is one.” Koscielny has played just one season in Ligue 1, having started his career with lower-league side Guingamp, and then to Lighe 2 outfit Tours. Of Polish decent, he was voted in the Ligue 2 team of the season in 2008-09, after which Lorient moved to sign him for 1.5million euros. (Evening Standard) So admittedly its not the big name player most Gunners fans had hoped for but perhaps its just the first of many new additions to his Emirates squad? The Lorient man is clearly a player Wenger admires the 24 year old centre back and has been trying to secure a deal for his services for the best part of a month now. Although Koscielny is not a household name that doesn’t mean he can’t do a sterling job at Arsenal and he did help his unfashionable side to a healthy 7th spot in Ligue 1 and was more than able to make the jump from the lower leagues so there must be something Arsene sees in the well built defender that he feels will suit the Premier League. With the likes of William Gallas and Mikel Silvestre leaving the club the Arsenal boss clearly needed to bring in new faces and is probably lining up moves for a new keeper and perhaps other signings to boot in order to bring an end to a five year silverware-less streak.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
The 2010 World Cup is underway and Arsenal.com will be keeping you regularly updated with the progress of the ten Gunners taking part in the tournament.
Cesc Fabregas was a second-half substitute as Spain beat Honduras 2-0 on Monday evening. The result means a win over Chile on Friday would see the European champions through to the last 16. The game's first goal came 17 minutes in when David Villa found the top corner from 12 yards. A second was added five minutes after halftime when Villa's 20-yard drive deflected in. The striker then had a chance to bag a hat-trick when Jesus Navas was felled in the area. However, Villa struck his penalty wide. Fabregas was introduced in the 66th minute and almost got a goal within a minute. The midfielder rounded the Honduras keeper but had his effort cleared off the line. Spain are now second in the Group H table.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
Eduardo set to leave Arsenal after Arsene Wenger tells him that he will not be in team's plans next season - report:
Croatia striker Eduardo is likely leaving Arsenal after Arsene Wenger informed him that he will not be a part of his first-team plans next year. The 27-year-old has struggled to return from the broken leg and dislocated ankle he suffered in 2008 that almost ended his football career, failing to score in his final 12 matches for the Gunners. Wenger recently signed former Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh to pair upfront with Robin van Persie and the Frenchman believes that Eduardo should try to rejuvenate his career at a different club, according to the Daily Mail. The Croatian is believed to favour a move to a different European league in order to leave the more physical Premier League.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
Japanese star would certainly interest Arsenal
Arsenal – Keisuke Honda catches the eye of Arsene Wenger. Japanese star Keisuke Honda has set his sights on a move the Premier League...with Arsenal one of the clubs said to be interested. As things stand, it’s not known whether CSKA Moscow will allow him to leave the club, but after his impressive performances at the World Cup there will be no shortage of suitors. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed his admiration for Honda last week , describing him as the ‘best performer’ in South Africa. The 24-year-old Japanese international started his career at the same club as former Arsenal player Junichi Inamoto, Gamba Osaka, before moving onto Nagoya Grampus Eight, the club from whom Arsene Wenger joined the Gunners in 1996. The agent of Honda, Kees Ploegsma said that the player, who Wenger also described as ‘a genius’ was considering a switch to England. “There has been no interest as of yet, only rumours. But obviously he is open to think about everything. The difficulty is that he has just signed a four and a half year contract at CSKA Moscow and he has only been there for half a year. Plus, they paid a good price for him. “Obviously he is open to interest and talk of the Premier League but the second issue is CSKA Moscow. I am not saying it is unlikely that they might sell him, but I don’t know what price they would be asking for as he is under contract for another four and a half years. “There have been no phone calls or anything direct, but there is smoke without fire is there?!” Honda played in all four of Japan's World Cup matches as the Samurai Blues reached the second round before losing on penalties to Paraguay.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
Arsenal and Spurs are the leading Premier League clubs chasing the signature of German international Serdar Tasci.
The Stuttgart defender has been solid for the Bundesliga outfit since graduating from their youth setup, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer after recent comments from the player's agent. “The situation is that Serdar (Tasci) is aware of the interest from the Premier League, and he is eager to play in England at some point," Uli Ferber told Sport.co.uk. "Serdar respects both clubs [Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur] as two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League." 23-year-old Tasci rose to prominence in Die Roten's title winning Bundesliga campaign back in 2006-07, and went on to prove himself on the Champions League stage. The centre back earned international recognition for his fine form in 2008, making his debut against Belgium in 2008. Tasci has 12 caps to his name thus far, but is yet to feature in the World Cup despite being part of Germany's 23-man squad in South Africa. Serie 'A' giants Juventus are also thought to be interested, but north London rivals Spurs and the Gunners must be classed as favourites after these agent quotes. Wenger also appears to have the edge over Redknapp, with Ferber hinting that his client has admiration for the work of the Frenchman. "Also he is a fan of Arsene Wenger, the work he has done, and has great respect for him,” Ferber concluded.

Re: Arsenal FC @ Emirates All Gunner fans fall in
Why did Arsenal sign this guy Laurent Koscienly, his he from a big club like Marseille , Lyon or even PSG in France,, I really hope Arsene Wenger can stopping wasting money signing unknown names and its time to bring in players like Puyol or Segio Ramos to the team..
I hope Koscienly will not be the next flop to the team!

Did you believe when Sagna was signed or when he signed Vermalean that they can be the buy of the season? Do not judge player just because he plays for unfancied club. I do hope he will be great signing and I believe in ARSENE. |

Look at other teams and managers, even those that make big signings like Real also don't do well. Wenger spent 10m on verminator, and good job he did. Now he signs another young star, about 8m. He's taller and provide more confidence at the back for aerial challenges. Pretty good acquisition. At least he did say that this 2 won't be his only signings. I think he wants to get another midfielder at least.

Goalkeeper is what Arsenal needs badly. He should not start new season with Almunia or Fabianski in between posts. |
