Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Oh well. One-goal loss as expected. Just thought there'd be more goals. Earliest we can hope for a next UCL game is Aug 2023.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
'REVAMP NEEDED' Scholes calls on Man Utd to hire ‘elite’ coach as Ferdinand claims they wouldn’t win league even with Haaland AND Mbappe
* by Kealan Hughes, The SUN UK RIO FERDINAND and Paul Scholes believe Manchester United would still be in the Champions League if Diego Simeone was manager. And the pair both believe United are in desperate need of an elite manager like the Argentine. In fact, Ferdinand argues the Red Devils would not be successful without getting such a manager even if they signed two of the best players in the world this summer - Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Ferdinand slammed United as a team of individuals, arguing that was the difference between them and Atletico in the 1-0 defeat. He said on BT Sport's post-match coverage of the game: "Atletico have a manager who can put a team out to do the job. "Everything is about the team. For Man United, the season is over. It was really a reflection of what the season have been like. They looked alright in moments but it’s Jekyll and Hyde moments. You see the good, the bad and the ugly. We didn’t see enough quality. "The difference between the teams was that Atletico had a group of reliable men who would do anything the manager asked them and worked together. "Whereas the other team (United) is looking and saying ‘who’s going to pull us out of this, the magic trick out of the hat.’ "It’s not about the team getting through it but individuals. "If you bring in Mbappe and Haaland this summer, United aren’t winning the league. It doesn’t matter who they bring in. The revamp needs to be from the top down." Scholes was in agreement with his former team-mate but suggested Ralf Rangnick should never have been given the manager's job. He also thinks there will be more painful nights for United before they are back competing for silverware. And he reiterated his point that United need a tough disciplinarian in charge who will take no nonsense from the players - someone in the mould of Sir Alex Ferguson like Antonio Conte or Thomas Tuchel. Scholes added: "They (Atletico) are not a better team than Man United but they’ve got a better coach, a more experienced coach who knows how to get results. If he was coaching Man United then they go through. "How this manager was given the job six weeks, six months, six games, I don’t know. "We’ve had a lot of pain and I think there’s still a bit more before we get to where we want to be. "But until we get a proper top-class elite coach, who strikes fear into players it could be two, three or four years before they are challenging. "There’s no sign of getting closer, it feels like it’s going in the opposite direction."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Man Utd have 12 players who need to leave after Atletico Madrid Champions League defeat
MANCHESTER UNITED exited the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. By JACK OTWAY Manchester United saw their hopes of Champions League glory ended by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. The Red Devils were sunk courtesy of a goal from Ronan Lodi, meaning they won’t be winning a trophy for the fifth year on the trot. So, as they prepare to rebuild once again, Express Sport will now take a look at EVERY player who is nowhere near good enough and should leave in the aftermath of the defeat - whether they played or not. Dean Henderson Paid £150,000-a-week to sit on the bench. United can get a good fee for the England international and that money can be used to invest in a cheaper back-up goalkeeper to challenge David De Gea. Harry Maguire It’s been three years and Harry Maguire still doesn’t look like an £80million defender. Leicester were perhaps his level and he doesn’t radiate any authority at the back. Eric Bailly Too erratic. Barely plays. The Ivory Coast international has been injury-plagued for years and isn’t an upgrade on a single other defender at the club. Phil Jones Another injury-prone asset. Phil Jones deserves credit but he knows his time at United should, if they’re managed right, soon to be over. Had he not suffered the injuries that he did over the years, his career could have turned out differently. Nemanja Matic His best years are behind him and Chelsea knew it when they offloaded him back in the summer of 2017. The Serbia international has his uses but wouldn’t get game time at any other giant - either at home or abroad. Paul Pogba Has been at the club since 2016 and blows too hot and cold. The fact he was left out of United’s biggest game of the season sums everything up and the sooner he leaves on a free transfer, and brings Mino Raiola with him, the better. Jesse Lingard Was denied an exit in January and has barely played since, despite United being short on attackers. Why was he kept? That’s a question only the club’s hierarchy can answer. Juan Mata Juan Mata is one of the most-loveable people in football. Good on the pitch, flawless off it. Yet the Spain international is nowhere near the player he used to be and that means he’s another who should be cut loose at the end of the season. Marcus Rashford Marcus Rashford hasn’t developed anywhere near enough since making his debut during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge. Has all the talent to be a hit but, when he came on against Atletico, was absolutely abysmal. Edinson Cavani Has his uses as a substitute but spends too much time being injured - and telling coaches he doesn’t feel in peak condition to play. A faded force. Anthony Martial There’s been talk of Anthony Martial potentially returning to United after his loan spell with Sevilla ends. Why? He’s another Rashford, a player who hasn’t done enough during his half-a-decade on the club’s books. Donny van de Beek Everybody was quick to criticise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for not playing Donny van de Beek yet his poor performances for Everton show that, perhaps, his old boss was right about him all along. Let the CULLING begin.....

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel overtakes Mauricio Pochettino as Man Utd's No 1 manager target
MANCHESTER UNITED have made Thomas Tuchel their preferred target to become the club's next manager, according to reports. By LEWIS WINTER Manchester United have reportedly made Thomas Tuchel their No 1 managerial target ahead of Mauricio Pochettino. United are claimed to want to appoint Tuchel before the end of the current season. United are on the search for a permanent manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last December. Ralf Rangnick was brought in on an interim basis until the end of the season. But Rangnick has been unable to have the desired effect on the United squad and boost his own chances of getting the job on a full-time basis. Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are two of the leading candidates for the role. Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino has long been linked with United and Ten Hag has impressed during his time in charge at Ajax. But Tuchel has now overtaken both of them as the preferred target for the Red Devils. That is according to a report from the Daily Star, which claims United are looking into the possibility of luring Tuchel to Old Trafford before the end of the season. United are aiming to take advantage of the huge financial uncertainty at Chelsea. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was last week sanctioned by the UK Government after links were found with the Russian president Vladimir Putin. The growing problems at Stamford Bridge has led to speculation over the future of their manager and players. Tuchel has publicly stated he would be staying at Chelsea until at least the summer. But there is genuine hope on United's side that the former PSG manager is now available. Chelsea are currently for sale and interested buyers must register their interest by the end of the week. Tuchel still has over two years remaining on his Chelsea contract but United believe a large compensation package would be attractive to the west London side. The Star says there is also concern at United about Pochettino's suitability for the job. The Argentine has long been linked with the Red Devils, dating back to his time in charge of Tottenham. However, he saw his PSG side crash out of the Champions League last-16 stage against Real Madrid last week despite taking a first leg lead to the Bernabeu. Pochettino failed to win any trophies during his five years in charge of Tottenham. He has won a couple of cups at PSG but is set to lead them to the Ligue 1 title this season after failing to do so last term. United's chances of luring Tuchel may depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League next season. They currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind Arsenal in fourth. The Gunners have three games in hand, starting with the visit of Liverpool on Wednesday evening.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
If it is possible to get Tuchel, he should definitely be in the frame.
Ten Hag has suffered the same fate as Ajax was shocked by Benfica and knocked out of UCL this round. I guess that is a blemish on his otherwise stellar record. But still Ten Hag over Poch for me. Enrique and Flick over Poch too.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Thomas Tuchel has already told Manchester United how he would improve the players
Many pundits have called on United to approach Tuchel about the vacant manager's job at Old Trafford SHARE COMMENTS ByJack Flintham Thomas Tuchel has already explained how he would deal with the Manchester United players if he was to take over at Old Trafford. United are currently looking for a permanent replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked last year. Ralf Rangnick took the job on an interim basis until the end of the season at which point he is set move to an advisory role. Manchester Evening News understands that Ajax's Erik ten Hag and PSG's Mauricio Pochettino are the frontrunners to become the next United manager. However, pundits including Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes have called on the Reds hierarchy to call the current Chelsea boss to discuss the vacancy. Tuchel has won the Champions League and Club World Cup since arriving at Stamford Bridge, however his future is unclear after sanctions to the Blues' owner Roman Abramovich rocked the club behind the scenes. His contract runs out in 2024 but the German may be unsettled leading to the potential for United to profit. It is clear that if Tuchel was to take the job, he would have to deal with a lot of big personalities. In an interview with BT Sport, Tuchel explained his managerial style. He said: "They are also guys, once standing as a six-year-old with a ball at the beach or on the street. So find what drives this guy, find this little guy in the superstar and then take the right approach. "Of course be straight, be honest. I want to have a connection with my players and give guys responsibility. "It is not possible that players just take care of themselves - when you're a big player you must take care of the dressing room. You can be close and you have to speak honestly with each other and I try to be friendly, but not to be friends so this is maybe the thin line that you have to create."

Southgate has also taken leave of his senses.
Axed Sancho but called up Maguire.... LOL England squad: Man United's Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho axed by Southgate Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been dropped by England manager Gareth Southgate for the latest squad for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast. The 24-year-old has suffered a recent dip in form and issued an explanation on Wednesday after a video clip of an altercation with a group of United supporters. Rashford's club teammate Jadon Sancho and Manchester City's Kyle Walker also failed to make the squad. After the club season concludes, Gareth Southgate's side will then play in the UEFA Nations League in June where they are in a group with Germany, Italy and Hungary. England have already qualified for the 2022 World Cup and will use the friendlies as preparation for the tournament in Qatar which begins in November. Full England squad Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Burnley), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Coady (Wolves), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Ben White (Arsenal) Midfielders: Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Declan Rice (West Ham), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) Forwards: Tammy Abraham (AS Roma), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) https://www.espn.com.sg/soccer/engla...d-by-southgate

And yes, i totally agree with you that the new manager must have the balls to do that and not allow the BODonkeys to dictate the dressing room and what happens on the pitch.

No, I don't think he shd stay in the team n wasting time there..either he sign up as a permanent England player or sell him to a championship team n recoup some money back to invest in other better players
