Re: All you need to know about HIV -updated May 2011
Hey bro havefun3 you mean the person who received oral sex right?
Let me take a quote from medhelp.org where the doctors and experts (forum users who have tons of experience and are also supported by the doctors themselves) they both have decades of experience in these fields. I'll refer to a question for one of the riskiest encounters - male to male oral. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV-Pre...d/show/1428409 the answer given "" There is often a difference in the answers given by the docs in the expert forum vs us. People have to understand that medical professionals and the CDC have a responsibility to be ULTRA conservative when discussing risks. Therefore, there is a MINUTE "theoretical" risk assigned to oral sex. If oral sex was TRULY a "real" risk, there would be new cases all the time of HIV being transmitted in this manner. There absolutely is NOT. And a "theoretical" risk is VERY different from an actual risk. The docs have BOTH said time and time again in the expert forum that neither of them, in their combined DECADES of being specialists dealing with HIV have EVER seen a case of HIV as a result of oral sex, nor have they READ any convincing cases. " And this is from a person asking about a risk from giving a blowjob (he gave a blowjob) http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV-Pre...b/show/1500538 the reply "No incident HIV infections among MSM who practice exclusively oral sex. Int Conf AIDS 2004 Jul 11-16; 15abstract no. WePpC2072)??Balls JE, Evans JL, Dilley J, Osmond D, Shiboski S, Shiboski C, Klausner J, McFarland W, Greenspan D, Page-Shafer K?University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco, United States Oral transmission of HIV, reality or fiction? Am J Epidemiol 1997, 146:531-542. Studies which show the fallacy of relying on anecdotal evidence as opposed to carefully controlled study insofar as HIV transmission risk is concerned: Jenicek M. Methodological problems in AIDS behavioral research: influences on measurement error and participation bias in studies of sexual behavior. Psychol Bull. 1990 Nov;108(3):339–362. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally quotes from the doctors themselves (who are experts in these fields and highly experienced) There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex. The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way. Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk". There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk". DR. HANSFIELD "And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Please educate yourself about the real risks. If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. " DR HANSFIELD "I am sure you can find lots of people who belive that HIV is transmitted by oral sex, but you will not find scientific data to support this unrealistic concern..." DR HOOK "HIV is not spread by touching, masturbation, oral sex or condom protected sex."- DR. HOOK in the public HIV Prevention forum of MedHelp, TEAK and the other moderators maintain that oral sex in all forms is a zero risk activity. Would you agree with this assessment? I TOTALLY AGREE / DR GARCIA "The observation on thousands and thousands of observations is that HIV is not spread by oral sex (of any sort)." DR HOOK " All the best bro! If you worried then if within 72 hours can go for PEP which reduces the risk from HIV. I cannot comment whether yours was really risky or not but you know best. Just know that when you engage in these activities, the risk will always be there |

Re: All you need to know about HIV -updated May 2011
Quote:
But on the other end, here's some quotes from the expert doctors/ expert forum users who have been involved since the start of the AIDS epidemic so they are really experienced and their accounts are corroborated by one another [doctors from different forums] This is from Ann fomr poz forums regarding the condom slipping during sex "Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is successfully transmitted INSIDE the human body. The important thing in your situation is that the head of your penis was protected while you were INSIDE her. What happened afterwards doesn't really matter as hiv will not be transmitted in the circumstances you described. " and this is from a user and the reply from the doctor user: "I had an exposure with an csw, who gave an oral, then had sex with condom, on withdrawl, i see no condom & she pulls it from vagina. What are the chances of acquiring hiv though this incidence? " doctor's reply: "Welcome to our Forum. You do not say where your exposure took place but, in general, any single exposure to a commercial sex worker is rather low risk for getting HIV and, in your case it is lower still. In some parts of the world, risk for HIV among CSWs is higher than others. The reason I state that your risk is, in general, low, is because IF your partner had HIV, and most CSWs do not, the risk of getting HIV from a single vaginal sex act is only 1 infection per 1000 exposures. Thus, if the chance that your partner had HIV was 1 in 10 (that is 10% of CSWs in that location had HIV), your mathematical chance of infection would be 1 in 10,000. In your case, your exposure was mostly condom protected making it still less likely. Condoms reduce the risk of HIV by more than a thousand fold over the risk from unprotected sex. Thus, with a condom, if your partner had HIV, the risk of infection was still less than 1 in a million. In your specific case, I suspect that your exposure was entirely condom protected and that you came out of the condom as you were removing yourself from your partner. If a condom comes off during sex, it typically is forced into the vaginal and none of it is apparent. On the other hand, when the condom comes off as one leaves a partner, the condom left behind stays behind and hangs out of the vaginal as was your experience. Can I be certain that this happened? No but it it is likely. I suggest that you get an HIV testing 6-8 weeks. I am confident that it will be negative when you do, proving that you did not get HIV. In the meantime, try not to worry. You have little reason for concern. EWH " source: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV-Pre...k/show/1246494 http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=3468.0 Just to add the doctors at medhelp in their time at the forum (which is a long time), have had tons of questions and they have never had a single forum user who asked them question turn up HIV positive |

But as long as the penile opening was covered, then it shouldn't matter even IF it wasn't covered, the average risks of unprotected vaginal sex averates 1 in 2000. So you can have sex once a day with a HIV infected woman for 5 years and expect to not get infected. (this is just an illustration though! Please don't do this stick to protected sex!!) |
