I think we should give our 2nd stringers a chance to impress Rafa and to keep the 1st team on their toes. To reply you, I went to check Soccernet. Our probable 2nd team goes like this: Goalie: Diego Cavalieri (from Brazilian Side Palmeiras) Defenders: Dossena or Insua, Hyypia, Darby, Degen Midfielders: Benyanoun, Lucas, Mascherano or Plessis, Pennant or El Zhar Forward: Babel, Ngog or (maybe Torres for a 30 mins run to get match fitness). Not that weak you know? We have 22 players that featured for us this season in the BPL already. Information from ESPNsoccernet - Liverpool Statistics Using the same stats table, I'm more worried us burning out or getting injuries through wear and tear in the later stages of the BPL. After all, Rafa rotated to keep players fresh previously. |

Knowing Rafael, he prbly field a "weaken" team cos the Carling Cup is lowest on his priority of to win cups...

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Thanks for clarifying man. My mistake.
So I guess Spurs will field a strong team to defend their title. I suppose they will field a strong team in the FA cup too since Harry's the defending manager. First time I hear of Defending champion (carling cup) and defending manager (harry) combination. I hope we field our 2nd stringers. A lot of young talent we need to blood. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
From Soccernet: Mascherano named new Argentina captain
Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has agreed to captain Argentina under new coach Diego Maradona. "I've convinced him," Maradona told Radio La Red after returning from a six-day trip to Europe during which he visited a number of his top players. "I explained to him what I thought about him and told him what I thought he could give the team." Mascherano, 24, initially said he did not feel ready to take on the responsibility. Wow, this is a great honour for Mascherano. I hope the added responsibiity will help him mature as a player. Hope he won't get yellow cards anymore by harrassing referees about their decision. But then again, as captain, he can get to question referees about their decisions during a match. Can't wait to see how good mascherano can be as he matures. He's a MASSIVE but underrated player for us. Does all the hard work but seldom have game-winning, headline stealing moments. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Fucking Yankees. I wonder if they can't afford to pay, will we be relegated if we go into receivership?
GLOBAL CREDIT CRUNCH Banks could force sale of 'vulnerable' Liverpool By Soccernet staff November 12, 2008 Premier League takeover broker Keith Harris believes Liverpool could go into financial meltdown in January and might be forced to sell up. Anfield: Might be in financial trouble Harris, who has masterminded deals for Chelsea, Aston Villa, Hull City, West Ham United and Manchester City and is currently seeking buyers for Newcastle United and Everton, claims that the Reds could be severely affected by the global credit crunch. Bickering Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have two months to pay back a reported £350million worth of debt and with refinancing packages and new financial stakeholders getting harder and harder to find the Merseyside club might have to offload star players to pay off the debt. The worse case scenario would be for the banks to consider repossessing the club if the payments cannot be met. "The one that worries me is Liverpool," said Harris. "Liverpool's debt is due in January, with maybe a six-month extension." "The two banks which are the principal lenders - the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia - are two of those that have suffered. Whether they want to lend it again or not, they may not be able to." Harris, chairman of Seymour Pierce investment bank and a former Football League chairman, has also admitted that Everton and Newcastle are no closer to finding a buyer. "It has never been more difficult to find buyers," explained Harris. "It's no longer a question of price negotiation - it's should we? People are wondering if now is the time to spend." Los Angeles Galaxy owner Philip Anschutz was linked by a number of newspapers with a possible bid for Newcastle as part of a US consortia but the owner of AEG denied the reports on Wednesday. "Neither AEG nor anyone affiliated with the organisation are in negotiations or are contemplating the purchase of Newcastle United Football Club," the billionaire said in a statement. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Here's a hopeful solution. I signed up.
Today ShareLiverpoolFC released an 'open letter' addressed to the current owners of Liverpool Football Club. As a registered member, here is a copy of the letter and a few weblinks to press coverage. Thank you for your support. We will continue to keep you updated on progress, ShareLiverpoolFC Board ShareLiverpoolFC Today's press coverage: Liverpool Echo - "ShareLiverpoolFC tell George Gillett and Tom Hicks: Sell our club to us" Times Online - "Supporters group urge George Gillett and Tom Hicks to sell Liverpool to them" Telegraph Online - "Liverpool fans group write to Tom Hicks and George Gillett asking to buy the club" OPEN LETTER TO GILLETT & HICKS Dear George & Tom We understand you have decided to relinquish your ownership of Liverpool FC and are actively looking for a buyer. Along with the vast majority of Liverpool fans, we agree with your decision to withdraw. We would like to buy the club on behalf of the fans, and invite you to sit down with us to agree a deal. We are confident that if you’re willing to sell to us for a fair price, we would have sufficient backing (either from the fans alone, or with a suitable partner). As you may know, ShareLiverpoolFC is an IPS – effectively a ‘Co-operative’ – owned by single shareholding members (not unlike the Green Bay Packers). We are not motivated by making a profit from the commercial exploitation of Liverpool FC; all income would be directed towards the benefit of the Club and the team itself. We want the Club we love run solely in the best interests of a successful team, the fans and the community. We believe we represent a real opportunity for both of you to bring to an end a troubled period of ownership; an ‘exit strategy’ which would lead to admiration and respect from many. Doing the honourable thing and selling the club to the fans would return it to the values that made it the most successful football club in England and one of the best supported clubs in the world. If necessary, we will come in with a partner. As you are no doubt now aware, the stewardship of a club like Liverpool cannot be separated from the interests of its fans and its community, and anyone thinking of bidding for the club will realise that the backing of the fans is essential to ensuring a harmonious and successful club. There is now a growing feeling across the sport, from FIFA and UEFA to the FA, and from the grassroots upwards, and even from our own government, that big clubs are in real danger of losing touch with their audience. You could help reverse this trend. We’d also like you to be able to leave with dignity. George, in an interview last March, you said, “Our goal from the beginning was to add….to the lustre (of Liverpool FC)…”. At this point you can only achieve this by doing the right thing – and that is to offer the club to the fans. Come and talk to us. Yours sincerely ShareLiverpoolFC |
