What's more important minor political issues or sanuking with all the beautiful Thai girls? Current political unrest will not effect tourist areas so don't worry, be happy! I was there during New Year's bombing and it didn't effect my partying in Bangkok. Just little nuisance due to presence of security personnel around BTS and MRT stations.

during my trip to BKK, i was in patpong doing agogo bar hoping and found that most of the 1st floor bars are quite ok.
the one i find that has better 'customer services' is kings (theres quite a few in patpong and they all seem good except the one where you can find ladyboys,not really to my liking so did not go in)haha...

In Patpong, there's two gogo bars specializing in ladyboys, King Castle III and Kings Cornor. Everty trip to Bangkok, I always visit Kings Cornor because of the dancers, ladyboys and real girls are highly entertaining. Also the friendly atmosphere, especially enjoy watching customers making mistakes over ladyboys. Ladyboys hustle for drinks but if tell them no, they will leave you alone.

haha..i remember when i walk passed the bar (think it kings 3) that time,1 ladyboy just jump out and squeeze my nipples, gave me a shock,but i know its all in good fun.
