Viet Kieu begin to invest in VN property market
================================================== ===

A large number of Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese) have started to invest in the Vietnamese real estate market.

Investments had become more diversified and stronger than ever, said Megagroup’s Director Nguyen Xuan Chau.

Chau added that the trend had started around 10 years ago and really picked up over the past two years.

In 2010, he said, a series of resorts and ecological tourism projects were announced with a growing number of North American management and consultancy firms co-ordinating the projects.

To capitalise on this, Minh Viet Investment Joint Stock Company recently bought into the franchise of a famous foreign company in order to use its trademark to invest in Viet Nam’s real estate market.

According to the com-pany’s director Chi Edward, his company will use the trademark to do business in training and brokerage as well as managing and developing the real estate market in Viet Nam.

The company had previously invested in projects in Ha Noi, HCM City and the northern province of Quang Ninh.

As further proof, at the end of 2009, the director of Binh Thien An Joint Stock Company, Viet kieu Trinh Thanh Huy, decided to return from Russia and announced that his company was looking to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into the real estate market in HCM City.

Binh Thien An is currently involved with the Thao Dien Metropolice project in District 2 of HCM City.

In the second and third quarters of this year, many other tourism developments were announced by overseas Vietnamese investors from eastern Europe.

The Vietnamese real estate market was still young. It had a huge potential to attract investment from overseas Vietnamese, Chau said.

Referring to a recent survey, experts said the new trend would create competitiveness in the market which would help develop it further.

The survey was carried out at an international real estate exhibition with the participation of 46 countries.

The results showed that investment interest in the Vietnamese real estate market had grown by 20-30 per cent since 2008.

Another survey conducted by a British company also found that in the next two years, Viet Nam would become one of the top three markets of interest in the world.

University degrees cannot help graduates get good jobs
================================================== ===

VietNamNet Bridge – A lot of young people eagerly return to their home villages after graduating from universities, hoping to devote themselves to the native land. However, in many cases, their noble intentions cannot be fulfilled, because they cannot find jobs.

Feeling confident with the university degree, LBD returned to Phu Yen province with the simple wish: becoming a literature teacher at a village school. Ignoring the invitation to work for an agency in HCM City, D decided to return to Phu Yen right after she finished the HCM City University of Education, hoping that she would be useful to the children in rural areas.

In fact, D was warned about the difficulties she would meet when looking for jobs in the home village, but she believed that her high qualifications would help her find a good job.

The brain and… the money

D has every reason to believe that she would be able to get a job at a village school. She graduated the university with excellent results. , She also wonseveral prizes for student scientific researchers while she was at university. She was also the member of the province’s team participating in the national competition for excellent students.

However, until now, one year after she submitted her CV to the local department of internal affairs, she still has not received any reply regarding the job.

Meanwhile, a friend of D’s, who graduated Quy Nhon University of Education at “average level”, got the job as a high school teacher in the same province. The friend revealed that in order to get the job, she had to pay money, called the “underground money”.

Finally, D decided to leave her home village for HCM City, where she plans to continue studying at the HCM City University of Education. “I was just a redundant in my native land,” she complained.

BTH from Binh Phuoc province related that one year ago, she said “no” to the invitations to work in HCM City and decided to return to Binh Phuoc province after she graduated from the HCM City Economics University. However, she still cannot find a job here, in her home village.

The problem in Binh Phuoc, according to H, is that the information about recruitments is not made public. Sometimes H sees some advertisements prices on newspaper or television, but H never had enough time to submit her CV to the employers. In general, the deadlines for CV submission came just one day after the day the advertisement appears in newspapers.

University graduates work as blue collar workers?

NTH in Vinh City in central Vietnam related that she has decided to leave for Binh Duong province in the south where she will be a worker at a garment company, because she has run out of patience. Now she does not believe that she can ever find a good job in Vinh City, therefore, it would be better to leave to look for jobs herself.

Graduating from the journalism faculty of a big university, Huynh My Hien returned to Tay Ninh, wishing to work for a district ratio station. However, Hien was told that there was no vacancy for her.

After some time, Hien was given a job that she described as “very boring” at the department of propaganda and training. Just after two months of working, she decided to give up the boring job, though she could earn 900,000 dong a month.

As such, the path of seeking jobs and devoting themselves to native land sometimes is full of spikes and thorns.

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club

Even in education where imparting knowledge to the new generation also has so much Corruption, what u think the young ppl will grow up to become??

Fighting corruption in education sector an uphill battle
================================================== ====

VietNamNet Bridge – Fighting corruption in education was a significant task, the Vice Inspector of the Ministry of Education and Training, Pham Van Tai said.

According to research based on media coverage of corruption by the United Nations Development Programme in 2008, corruption in education was still a big problem.

Marie Ottosson, a senior official from the Swedish Embassy, said two studies showed that education and training were the largest items on the State budget (15 to 20 per cent), but weak accounting and monitoring systems provided opportunities for corruption.

"Corruption in education is a threat to sustainable development and the well being and future of Viet Nam because it creates distrust in the education system," she said.

Tai said most opportunities for corruption emerged during admission at every education level, extra teaching and learning activities and the "over collection of fees".

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia said most teachers still lived in difficult conditions due to limited incomes and did not feel secure without doing extra teaching.

Tai said other reasons included a patchy legal framework, shortage of integrated policies and the absence of monitoring systems.

"Extra teaching and learning malpractices are widely seen, especially in cities, towns and lowland provinces," he said. "Some teachers even move some parts of the school curriculum to their private teaching classes to force students to attend extra classes for private gains."

A survey titled "Present Corruption in Education" in Ha Noi, HCM City and Da Nang during May suggested that many parents themselves were actually willing to compromise with these malpractices.

Nguyen Van Thang, director of T&C Consulting, which ran the survey with the Government Inspectorate, said the acceptance of parents towards distorted behaviour was a non-stop social activity. Thang said many parents had a perception that standard schools and extra learning would help children get a better education. He said corruption generally involved small amounts of money but the social impact was severe as it posed psychological and time burdens for families.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, an education specialist from United Nations Children’s Fund Viet Nam, said the key measure would be to change the perception of parents. He agreed that the ministry’s inspection activities should be formalised and conducted on a regular basis.

Sweden’s Ottosson called for more oversight and awareness from society and the media to combat corruption.

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club

The phone come not cheap yet so many ppl wanted to buy. Their average monthly salary not high, but they still willing to buy, dun know they need to starve for how many months

Customers have to draw lots to buy iPhone 4
==================================================

VietNamNet Bridge – Next week VinaPhone will import an additional 450 Apple’s iPhone 4 smart phones. As thousands of people want to buy the phone, the firm may have to hold a draw to select lucky customers.

VinaPhone will hold a draw to ensure impartiality for customers, a company official said, adding that customers will register for the draw in the morning and the draw will be organized on the afternoon of the same day.

“We will make public the points of sale and draw to prevent our employees from illegally selling the phones,” he said.

The firm recently banned its staffs from collaborating with phone shops to sell iPhone 4 to earn extra profit. Violators will be fined or even fired.

Meanwhile, Viettel’s new batch of iPhone 4 arrived in Vietnam today, October 15. Viettel will randomly select customers from October 20-24 via its website and organize draw like VinaPhone at all Viettel shops in Vietnam. However, this firm will sell several iPhone 4 a day.

On online forums, customers complained that they had to wait for a long time to own an iPhone 4. Many people couldn’t wait so they turned to buy iPhone 3Gs, resulted in the increase of prices for this model.
