in sg many ppl, esp young ones r still spending money on restaurants, entertainment and holidays like no tomolo. the ones who see their $ keep increasing in the bank r the FT who have been poor before and know the meaning of spending within your means. not talking about the rich FT who r here to invest though.

I think you mean foreign workers, not foreign talents. Yes, they are greater savers. They came with a purpose. To make as much as they can in that short 2-3 years here. So they chiong all the way at work. Then go back country relax. You have to compete with these chiongster for 20-30 years. Hope you are superman

Well said..well said.. Retrenchment is part of the employment game. As you climb higher, paper qualification, experience counts nothing. The air is thin up there. Network and your value are the 2 most important assets that you can have as you climb higher and higher.
Sad to say that Asian Chinese are pretty bad in building networks. Ang Moh is dammnn good and they are willing to create jobs for their fellow countryman.

just an anecdote - i once lived in a middle east country... sibeh rich one... petol is like 50c a liter... no income tax... as citizens, from the time you born till you die... gahmen take care of you... of cos, you cannot get citizenship like how in singapore some ft can...

you know what? the whole time i was there, i was glad to be singaporean. the people were pathetic. they behave like big boss, but they cannot do any work. they have no pride. whole life everything come easy to them. they are wasteful - they got little natural water source but they use it like they dont care.. they are arrogant.. they treat all expats like their slaves even though the foreigners do all their work... both FT and FW...

worst of all - if tomorrow, oil becomes a useless commodity with no value, these people are fucked. they have no latent value and no economic contribution to offer.

At least in singapore, we are not at same risk. any singaporean who has obtained some kind of qualification can get a job just about anywhere in the world. it's whether you want or not.

I don't agree wit everything the government does and has done.. but i know they have gotten some things right.

Its actually quite clear. Many bros who replied understood. I wrote that I feel I am middle class no more. I wrote that things that a typical middle class person used to enjoy like like chilli crab, durian, a car is getting out of reach when once a upon a time, these are readily afforded by the middle class. (Singapore is famous for chilli ____. It would be strange when locals can no longer eat chilli ____)

I never wrote life is hard. I never wrote I am in abject poverty. I never wrote I needed financial help or advise.

One or two insisted I shut up because there are people worse off than me who are coping. This is akin to saying those who can eat hawker food must shut up because there are people who can't eat hawker food. And those who can't eat hawker food must shut up because there are people without even shoes. So ONLY the poorest in society can complain, the rest just shut up. I find this logic flawed.

Its my observation that cost of living is increasing rapidly. In the first post of this thread, I asked "You feeling the pinch too?"

A simple question of whether you are feeling the pinch. A simple yes/no answer required. Not financial advice.

A few rush to criticize. After debating, I find they have no kids. Another is not even married. I find they are NOT honest. Callous. Trolling this thread to push their own agenda.

Just 5 years ago, I used this same argument to tell people we should be glad to be Singaporeans. Look around at our neighbours. Travel to Indonesia and find children begging at traffic lights without shoes, I used to say.

Then I woke up. My daughter woke me up. She came back with 80+ for mid year exams. Claimed it was very high already. So for end year exams, she didn't bother to study.

What would do if you are her parents? Let her don't study? Or tell her to improve upon her 80+ marks?

There is no doubt Singapore did excellent. But what is excellent can also be improved upon. This is what our forefathers stood for. They kept progressing regardless. We should too. I believe our G has got some things right. Yet, it still can be improved upon.

There also has to be a distinction between old guards and current. You son is not you. You are not your son. The old guards did a sterling job. We owe them a debt we will never be able to repay. But a blind faith in their successors is just plain silly.

I have lots of respect for the old g, always quarreled with my father when talking about his ways of handling the country although I have to said old g is a petty & cruel man......

But look at how sg has been manage NOW...... we are like employees slaving for them to pay for their world highest salaries not to mention their whole CLAN, when most citizens are cutting down or downgrading our lifestyle to cater for the ever-rising living expenses.... My parents had worked their asses off to support the family when they are young, but now when they grow old I cant even give them the quality life that they have deserve as they are unable to work anymore. I believe those that keep bombing TS have parents that got saving, their own house/houses and even cars. Good for your family but there is a lot of families in Sg does not have that and are super worry about future medical bills & household expenditures..... Do you guys know Sg is 1 of the highest power & water bill in the whole planet??

In short..... Something has to be change in the next GE...... If not Singaporean will be further squeeze till DRY...... Ppl will asked "So u sure Sg will be better if they step down??" My answer is "If we dun try we do not know, but we are sure in SHIT HOLE now so there is nothing to lose"

i am not feeling the pinch, to be honest w you.... and i consider myself lucky for that... maybe cos i grew up poor so strong saving mentality? and i dont go for many little luxuries...
