If you're NOT only interested in P4P and enjoy picking up civvies, then Khaosan is highly recommended.

Lots of back-packers/budget travelers - many of them single girls or traveling in pairs/a group - who are eager and easy to chat up. Japanese girls are especially friendly, at least I found out so.

Lots of budget accommodations/very cheap hostels (with other friendly visitors), acceptably priced food and/or cheap-eats, trinket, clothing etc stalls and just a more laid back atmosphere where being a foreigner does not make you stand out.

But of course, like in many other parts of Thailand and SE Asia, do be careful of con artists, scams or even criminality. But hey, you stay in Khaosan, you'll for sure NOT be scammed or even contacted by our SBF Stealth agents as they only go for the Big Fish. LOL!

Staying in Khaosan and if you also want to go for Pro action, there IS some of this there; but if you find it unsatisfactory, note that the Bangkok transport infrastructure is OK and you should be able to go to any "more hard core action places" for not much.

Haven't actually stayed in Khoasan for years, but a couple years ago I visited a friend who was staying there and we spent a whole day really enjoying ourselves. A nice place still IMHO.

Just imo ....... Khaosan has the most expensive street eats i find. One plate of fried rice 50-60bht which I can get for 30bht elsewhere in BKK. Those fried sausages , meatballs etc usually 10bht per stick but in Khaosan 20-30bht per stick.

Transport infrastructure is OK in BKK but to get to Khaosan is different story......either u take boat or bus for cheapest option. Taxis are usually the scammers here..... They hear u wanna go khaosan they tell u 200bht juz my experience
If wan to travel out of khaosan likewise bus or boat cheapest option. If take taxi to say Sukhumvit or Ratchada where the hardcore activities are...... Meter no jam about 150bht up meter jam its no longer about the money its the time.... U wpuld probably find yourself stuck in taxi for more than an hour......... If no meter i kanan before 500bht but of cuz i not kum lan to board, juz my experiences ......


I only go khaosan for kao mok gai or if I nid to update my resume with more certs

Not to downplay Khaosan but agree with u that if one is not for p4p activities then mayb yes khaosan is a good choice with cheap accomodation and a few attractions and temples nearby to see see and take pic

Yes, I DO agree with what you say - it IS best for those more adventurous and perhaps with more time. And being young and/or physically attractive helps a lot too!

Cheap eats in this area don't remain cheap for long as the Back-packers' share their info and such places get popular quick...and of course prices get raised! But then again, no matter how expensive prices are in Thailand, they are still very reasonable compared to what most of us have to pay back home! So much so that I really never consider food costs much in Thailand - wherever!

And as for transport - yeah, my friend had to pick me up from the Boat Station on the Chao Praya as I remembered that this is the easiest/cheapest way there - but he needed to guide me back to Khaosan; that's how long ago since I actually stayed there! Still quite a pleasant stroll and not that much of a walk.

And talking about temples - lots of conmen and scammers hang about these places! Watch out!

Yes - lots of these scams as well as others.

A good way to avoid conmen is just to ignore them. Waylaying you to strike up a conversation, passing out supposedly free things, helping you when you're looking at a map or looking lost etc etc. Sooooo many of them around Tourist spots in Thailand.

Come to think of it, I nearly got conned by a SIGN can you believe it??!! A sign that has an arrow pointing to another area AWAY from the public boat entrance to tell me that the public boat is broken and thus must now take their boat! Maaaannnnn.....!
