Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Based on the first 45 minutes, we really see the need for Rafa to get a top-class central defender into the set-up ... as the immediate top priority.
I love the man for the countless times he has served the club so well ... but it's not difficult to see that Hyypia's lack of pace has become somewhat of an Archilles' Heel these days - Rafa doesn't even dare to play him in the BPL unless Carra or Agger is injured, becoz it's all about explosive pace in the BPL.

Let's hope we can unpick the midfield in the 2nd 45 minutes ...

Sigh... Pennant gets an second yellow... a silly and unnecessary foul, supported by fantastic playacting by the Portuguese. Rafa should have taken him off earlier as he was getting frustrated and it was just a matter of time before he got his marching orders...

1-1 .. a point gained i suppose. But if we are seriously to challenge for the Premiership and CL, we better get out of this slump that we are in.

Agree with KingEros... our defence was not its normal, reliable self. We need another centreback.

Also, maybe we should get another Right Winger ...

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

from the looks of the line up, i think our reds is pretty much still a fresh team (need a little more time to build up the instinct/ complementing each other's play). from observations, rafa's building the team around gerrard, since he's 1 of the more industrious/effective player in the middle. but the contingency is lacking, especially if gerrard is absent or being locked down by the opponents.

judging from reds playing style for eons, they've the tendency to spread the ball wide & playing the ball in the mid section of the pitch, making the formation look very much like table soccer. sometimes, the play gets a little too conservative, lack of breaks down the flanks or penetration into the opponents defense. giving the opponents plenty of time to pack their defense. (the nightmare is when they make a blunder, allowing the opponent to spring counter attacks, making our defense a little exposed/vulnerable)

occassionally we'd see our reds sweep the opponents diagonally down the flanks, providing chances to string 1 or 2 thru balls for torres/babel/voronin to lap on the stray passes (hoping for a toe-poke finish). apart from that, when encountering defense oriented teams, very difficult to get the ball into the net.

FC Porto Liverpool
Shots (on Goal) 14(3) 2(1)
Fouls 16 24
Corner Kicks 10 1
Offsides 1 0
Time of Possession 57% 44%
Yellow Cards 1 3
Red Cards 0 1
Saves 0 2

sometimes i wish if rafa can whip up a wicked concoction, fielding both alonso & gerrard in the same game. while alonse can teach the opponents tango, and gerrard send in a few pin point passes and/or try for goals from range.

as for pennant's rage.... i guess that's wat football is all about after all... a little too much passion. sigh

Portsmouth did had the better chances and its was due to poor finishing that we drew...

Other than the cross which Vovorin failed to connect, I didnt remember us having any clear cut chance...
That's fine bro. I'm not saying we played well either. But does everything need to go back to rotation? It's not unheard of that the same team can play like shite either. The fact is the first XI that afternoon had an average away game, that's all.

So I hope we get the 'rotation' category out of our minds. Torres and Kuyt, supposedly our first choice strikers, with Stevie and Masch in midfield, against Porto, team played like shite too. So?

Rotation argument is a chimera, you can never pin it down cos it's talking in empty air, about 'what if's. If a first XI screws up, then let's just say so and move on.

I'm happy that Rafa blasted the team and Pennant for his red. Just in case the players have started believing the hype after the Derby game. We might just need a kick in the arse from the gaffer to start playing proper football again.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Didnt watch the match but based on reports, it seems we were lucky to get a draw...

Just like bro rahl mention, we might get big headed cause of all the hype after trashing Derby..

Maybe had we lost the match last night, it could serve as a big wake up call?

But then I'm pleased we are still unbeaten so far this season in all competition..

I watched the entire game. Damm painful to see man. Gave away the ball so easily. It was a very strange game. Different spirit from earlier matches. Some spark gone.

You have a point. Seems that we did play with our first 11. Gerrard was disappointing and largely invisible. Without the Midfield dominance we are used to from captain marvel, Kuyt had to play really deep, leaving Torres alone upfront most of the time. Mascherano looked to play even deeper because of the unreliability of our defence. Our wingers, Pennant and Babel looked like schoolboys against their wide players. Reina played horribly, coming out unnecessarily for some crosses that almost resulted in another 1 or 2 goals.
