I don't see it as war. I see it as a discussion. Unfortunately 1 or 2 want to hijack this thread to make it personal.
Maybe we need a Moderator. Else future discussions degenerate into dogfights and this become like HWZ. Usually its that 1 or 2 that spoil it all for the rest. |

Re: Middle class Singaporean no more.....Sigh
I have a career soldier relative. The highest paid kind because he operates an expensive machine (should be enough clues). Early 40s, 3 kids, 4 fully paid condos. Immediate rentals. Work out his nett worth yourself. Considers himself below average. Typical koo wak chai. Out there, you have the same machine as your enemy. Who more koo wak, who lives.
Rich or poor is a perception. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion though I seriously doubt any civil servants is top 1% when even our Ministers are not there. It is occupied by business leaders. He too is worried cost of living is rising too fast. I hope you are ready by 50. |

And no. I'm not a career soldier. My personal income is $500 a month. I don't even get combat pay. That should qualify me as a very low income worker.

Aiyo. I thought it is common knowledge which vocation is the highest paid. HIGHest. High. Not low on the waters. Rank pay not a lot lah. That vocation pays better than General pay. Think. Think. |

Employment income, with very few exceptions has long since stopped being a useful indicator of personal wealth in this present economy, regardless of where one is.

I think a frigate or destroyer might cost more than a plane. Besides, You'll be surprised at how little pilots are paid in the SAF. That's why they quit once their 10 year bond is up and join SIA. I think his total take home is maybe $20k at most.

Re: Middle class Singaporean no more.....Sigh
Haha that does not change the fact that my income is considered low. We NSFs are generally low paid and (sometimes/ usually) overworked.

Re: Middle class Singaporean no more.....Sigh
True. But join SIA means start as First Officer nia. $8k a month. Different puay kee. Re-climb ladder. At least he still has a job after 50. Now you know why he worried.
