FLC Group’s Bamboo Airways expected to take off in October

In preparation for its first flight scheduled on October 10, Bamboo Airways plans to sell tickets from September 2.

According to an FLC Group spokesperson, the first passengers will be offered various discounts on services offered by FLC Group such as golfing and accommodation at its resorts.

Bamboo Airways will become Vietnam’s fifth airline.

Dinh Viet Thang, general director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), said his agency has not granted the airline an operating license and it is still under consideration.

This month the airline increased its charter capital to over $56 million with a fresh infusion of $26 million.

The airfreight project, which has a 50-year operating license, is expected to cost $30 million and be implemented in 2019-23.

Bamboo Airways is expected to buy 24 narrow-body Airbus A320NEO and 20 Boeing B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft at a list price of $8.6 billion.

Bamboo is expected to be a hybrid carrier combining full-service and budget models.

Vietnam’s four airlines are flag carrier Vietnam Airlines; budget operator Jetstar Pacific Airlines which is partly owned by Vietnam Airlines; budget carrier Vietjet Aviation and Vietnam Air Services Co.

The country’s airport capacity has been reaching its limits as fast economic growth means more people in the nation of 90 million are taking flights.

Hanoi-based FLC, whose main businesses are housing, resorts and golfing, had said it planned to operate international flights through Bamboo Airways to tourist spots in Vietnam including where FLC has properties and also plans domestic flights.

Who let the dogs out? Saigon’s District 1 to unleash a purge

Saigon’s ‘Captain Sidewalk,’ Doan Ngoc Hai, said on Thursday that, very soon, no dog will be allowed to roam free on District 1 streets.

He said the measure is aimed at ensuring traffic safety, cleanliness and "urban aesthetics."

Hai, the Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 and known for the sidewalk cleanup campaign starting in early 2017, said district officials would first educate the public about the negative impacts of letting their dogs roam free, the importance of vaccinating them to prevent the spread of diseases, and other factors.

Starting from August 14, however, violations will be strictly punished by the district, he added.

Last year, a law dictating that dogs must be muzzled and chained in public went into effect. Violations can cost the owners from VND600,000 ($26) to VND1.6 million ($71).

HCMC already has a specialized team from the Department of Animal Health that is in charge of patrolling the streets of Saigon for dogs roaming free without muzzles. If found, the dogs will be caught and kept in a pound. If the owner is nowhere to be found, they will be killed.

Vietnam IT workers unhappy with pay, but rapid change seems imminent

A TopDev survey finds supply of engineers falls far short of demand in sector with blockchain set to cause further disruption.

TopDev estimated that only 200,000 workers fully meet the market’s job requirements and demand is growing at 24 percent.

It projected the sector’s needs at 350,000-500,000 workers by 2021.The search for jobs related to blockchain was the highest ever in three recent years, reported in the last three years, TopDev said.

The survey also found that more than 50 percent were willing to switch jobs if they are offered higher salaries and benefits.

The monthly salary for developers ranges from $430 to $1,080, with front-end web developers earning $295-480 and back-end web developers getting $400-555.

Managers earn $1,110-2,400, and this amount could climb higher in future.

If developers have knowledge of and experience in blockchain, their salaries could easily triple due to the exploding demand, it said. Specialists in this area only account for 2-5 percent of IT engineers.

Vietnam has more than 100 technology and 5000 program developing companies in the blockchain segment to serve varies industries ranging from fintech to public services.

It is also reported that other industries like accounting, insurance, etc are looking to adopt blockchain sooner rather than later.

Besides, foreign investors are keen to invest in blockchain technology in Vietnam.

As head of venture investments at SGInnovate, a Singapore company aims to provide human and investment capital for tech startup, Tong Hsien-Hui said “There are lots of opportunities for Vietnamese and overseas companies working together.”

“I want to bring my colleagues and my team to work here since Vietnam has vast human resource talent.”

David Nguyen, chairman of Regulus Investment Capital Holdings which runs in both Vietnam and Singapore, said 99 percent of human resources in the blockchain segment would come from IT and Vietnam should have proper contingency plans to benefit capitalise on this.

there are quite a number below sgd20 especially if you are staying out of D1, there are also quite a number which are about sgd20 in D1 but I have not tried them before as it is mostly empty room within a house so you need to share the common toilet with others

so now you know why they cuntplained cannot really make $$$$ but I am not cuntplaining as it is goot for consumers like us

At the end of the ride, the Frenchmen gave the cyclo driver VND1.5 million ($65). If they used VND500,000 notes, it is not clear why they paid three, instead of two notes.

The cyclo driver returned their VND900,000 ($39) change in one VND500,000 and two VND200,000 notes.

Damn funny rite, especially on why they paid 3 pieces of 500k notes for a 600k ride

sure I knew lah D1 have sgd 20....but my playground no longer there...so why keep letting Grab make my money...I prefer to stay where I go nearby...best walking can lor...
