Like recent Man Utd vs Liverpool, after 2-0 up, performance drops big time, Luckily Liverpool did not manage to make a come back else it would be a big disappointment.

I cannot deny as fans, we would love to see our team plays good football, BUT then a win is still a win ... hopefully we make it better the next time round.

Couldn't have said it better Just on this morning's match, cannot take pride in reversal of our fortunes at ToT (Theatre of Dreams) -but for Berbi's exquisite moves resulting in 1st goal.

United's title bid was dramatically put back on track by Ryan Giggs' late winner in stoppage time at Carrow Road.

Paul Scholes had threatened to steal the headlines from Giggs on the Welshman's 900th appearance by heading home an early opener that, for so long, looked like being the only goal of the match. Norwich were not killed off and, instead, maintained a foothold in the game when Grant Holt equalised with only seven minutes remaining.

But Giggs had the final say in the dying seconds when tucking home an Ashley Young cross to cap a remarkable spell of pressure after Danny Welbeck looked to have twice passed up the opportunity to take the points.

Giggs flicked over from a Phil Jones cross with six minutes gone and, while that would have been a fairytale start, a goal was still forthcoming a minute later. A steady build-up did not appear to carry too much threat but there was a real sting in the tail when Nani whipped in a teasing cross from the right. Javier Hernandez and Welbeck were unable to get a touch but Scholes arrived on cue to give his nod of approval to the inviting centre.

A splendid move almost brought a second on 16 minutes when Nani and Hernandez ferried the ball to Welbeck but the striker's goalbound shot was expertly tipped away by Ruddy's fingertips with the keeper at full stretch. But Norwich retaliated, with David De Gea matching Ruddy's excellence with a vital block with his right boot to deny Anthony Pilkington,who beat Patrice Evra to advance onto a fine pass by Kyle Naughton.

Hernandez was unable to get any power on his shot after receiving a pass from Welbeck, with Ruddy saving comfortably, but De Gea was arguably busier than his opposite number in the first half. Pilkington's cross was met by a deft header by Holt but the Spanish keeper was equal to it, not only reaching the effort but clutching it safely.

United were not in top gear throughout the opening 45 minutes but looked dangerous when knitting moves together as Scholes and Michael Carrick tried to get a grip in midfield. After the restart, the Reds asserted more control but there were few chances created.

Bradley Johnson drilled wide following a stray pass out of defence by Evra and Andrew Surman had a volley blocked but the champions' defence looked comfortable. United burst into life with another lovely move as Welbeck played a one-two with Giggs but his lob past Ruddy did not carry enough pace on it and Zak Whitbread was able to clear.

De Gea had to be alert to make a spectacular diving catch to cut out a Pilkington centre but Sir Alex's side conjured up another moment of inspiration when Phil Jones' cross was volleyed against the bar by Giggs, who was so close to marking his special day with a goal.

Nevertheless, the Canaries remained in the game and, after a hopeful penalty shout against Scholes, Holt headed off target when left unmarked inside the area. Evra then blocked a Wes Hoolahan cross at point-blank range and escaped more penalty appeals from the home upporters.

It then took a superb save from De Gea, who pushed away an Aaron Wilbraham drive after the substitute was gifted possession by a rare sloppy pass by Scholes, to keep United level but an equaliser had been on the cards when, seconds later, Holt was allowed to turn despite the close attention of three defenders and lash home after Whitbread's header fell to him.

You could almost hear the cheers from the blue half of Manchester. However, the champions mustered a spirited response with Carrick finding plenty of space and opting to pass to Young, whose shot was blocked by Naughton, before Welbeck was guilty of a bad miss when Giggs picked him out, failing to get a touch with his intended header.

Welbeck could only fire against Ruddy's legs during a frantic finale and Elliot Ward almost put through his own net. But Norwich's resistance was ended when Young provided a telling cross and Giggs was in the right place at the right time to make it a dream day for the veteran midfielder.

am secretly glad that both rooney and cleverly will be missing the mid-week friendly between england and holland. more time for them to rest and prepare for the spurs game. spurs will surely come out fighting after the mauling they got from the gunners last night.

i started supporting the club from the late eighties (oh yes, i am THAT old ok? ), i shall therefore not comment on players like edwards, charlton, best and law who were from another era altogether.

just to name some great players who donned the united shirt from the late 80s to present : hughes, robson, bruce, schmeichel, van nilsterooy, solskjaer, keane, beckham, ronaldo, rooney, and of cos cantona (see my avatar)...... cantona is most special to me. only becos i believe he was the final piece of jigsaw that united needed for the one final push to win the league.

after the 1st win inspired by cantona in 1993, the rest is history. so for me, it is undoubtably king eric.

scholes and giggs....they have my utmost respect for their service and faithfulness to the club.

Think Fergie's comments must be taken in context (after escape in Norwich), not meant to be 'end all' kind of judging or competition in MU illustrious history. Diff era, diff players (as you say too).

Yo, King Cantona's my all time favourite. Playmaker, he can take the collar of an uninspiring game and win for us.

if u r old then i am ancient as i hv seen charlton, best, law n kidd play...but not fossilised enuff to hv seen the famous busby babes like edwards n violet...

fm a pure football aspect...i can honestly say that i hv yet to see a red devil as good as best...i think ronaldo comes close though...followed by giggs n law...

fm a team playmaker aspect...i wld say charlton, robson, cantona n keane r pretty much all even...

United were down to 10 men. Schmeichel had saved a penalty from Bergkamp. Late in the 2nd half of extra time, Giggs got the ball in United's own half, nutmegged Viera, then shashayed his way to the Arsenal penalty box, looked up, and shot the ball into the roof of the net.
What a goal! It was at that moment that I seriously thought that maybe, just maybe, that United could really go for the treble.

More than 10 years down the road and Giggs is still scoring these vital goals for us. For me, it has to be Giggs lah.

actually use to like the lesser well known players like steve heighway, jimmy case, terry mcdermott, ray kennedy, ian callaghan etc...also had a soft spot for emlyn hughes, kevin keegan, john barnes, alan hansen n graeme souness...but my all time fav has to be kenny dalglish...best no#7 red ever...

but to be honest based on pure football skill i dont think any reds player past r present cld match george best at his best...best is up their wif the greats like pele, maradona n cruyff...

Young helps United to Lane win

Ashley Young scored twice as Manchester United won 3-1 at Tottenham to move back to within two points of Manchester City in the Premier League.

Tottenham dominated large parts of the game but were lacking in creativity whereas United, when given the opportunities, were simply devastating.

Spurs thought they had taken the lead when Louis Saha's shot flew in off Emmanuel Adebayor but referee Martin Atkinson ruled it out for a handball and from then on, the visitors put the home side to the sword with a display that showed exactly why they are firmly in the hunt for their 20th league title.

Wayne Rooney rose to nod home a Young corner on the stroke of half-time and the former Aston Villa man then went on to add two in the second half - the first an acrobatic scissor kick, and the second a superb curling effort from 30 yards.

Jermain Defoe pulled a goal back three minutes from time but it was too little, too late, with Spurs now 13 points behind City and surely out of the Premier League title race once and for all.

The defeat - their first at home since Manchester City thumped them 5-1 in August - leaves them only four points ahead of Arsenal ahead of a tough run of fixtures.

This fixture has brought about many classics in the past, but this game started off slowly on a soggy afternoon in north London.

The absence of the suspended Scott Parker, injury victim Rafael van der Vaart and the ill Gareth Bale hit Spurs, although Sandro and youngster Jake Livermore did their best to deal with the imposing United midfield.

The visitors dominated the opening 15 minutes with Paul Scholes giving a master class in dictating the play in the middle of the park.

The Red Devils failed to fathom any chances, though, and Spurs soon started to take a grip on proceedings.

Aaron Lennon, recalled to the starting line-up after missing the past six games, rushed forward after cutting in from the flank before Jonny Evans put in a crucial block.

David De Gea then nervously palmed away a shot from Adebayor, who burst forward after picking up Sandro's pass.

The crowd sensed a goal and Lennon continued to cause havoc down the right, whipping over a ball that ricocheted about the box. Tottenham suspected the ball had hit a United hand but Atkinson shook his head.

Younes Kaboul then fired a bullet of a free-kick that went just wide before Rooney ventured forward only at the other end only to be cut out by Ledley King.

Spurs poured forward looking for an opener and they thought they had it in the bag in the 38th minute.

Lennon snuck in to the box and Saha turned his cross straight at Adebayor, who backheeled the ball into the net. However, he controlled the ball with his arm, albeit it appeared unintentionally, and Atkinson disallowed the goal.

The home contingent in the sell-out crowd vented their fury at the referee and their despair deepened on the stroke of half-time as United took the lead.

Sandro saw yellow for a late tackle on Young and the resulting free-kick saw Spurs concede a corner which Young swung in for Rooney to head home with Brad Friedel well beaten.

Spurs came out for the second half fired up, Livermore stinging De Gea's palms with a fierce drive before Kaboul headed narrowly wide.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto skimmed the top of the bar with a wicked curling free-kick as Tottenham upped the pressure but the home crowd were stunned in to silence on the hour as United added a second.

The Spurs defence switched off at a throw-in, allowing Nani to skip in to the box and fire a cross that ricocheted in to the path of Young, who adjusted his body to fire in a fine scissor kick.

Ferguson immediately brought on Ryan Giggs for Scholes and the travelling supporters mocked the home side by chanting "Harry for England".

United were starting to play some sublime football and their third came in the 68th minute in spectacular style.

Tottenham's defence backed off Young and he made them pay by unleashing a brilliant 30-yard strike that flew in over an outstretched Friedel.

More taunts came from the away fans as United threatened to go on the rampage.

Harry Redknapp brought on Niko Kranjcar, Danny Rose and Defoe to freshen things up and the move paid dividends to a minor extent when Defoe pulled back a consolation.

The former West Ham man picked up a wayward ball and advanced towards the United back line before belting home a 25-yard drive.

Spurs continued to push forward but two more goals in the three added minutes was too tall an order and United walked away with all three points.
