Every country is trying to protect their own economy & population. Even China, who has the highest GDP growth rate among others, is making a hell lot difficult for foreigners to work in China. It used to take 2 weeks to approve a China working visa...Now, it takes more than 2 months. Some cities even reject these applications outright, especially those who are severly hit by this crisis...

Some times it makes me wonder how on earth can a few jokers collapse an entire world ecomy??? Not to mention that all these jokers are highly intelligent who are graduate of Ivy League schools??

hur hur, yr beloved LKY is a hardcore believer of academic qualifications, especially those from popular / famous schools. That leads to the paper-chase in SGP. Now, it\'s showing the quality of those with well-decorated with papers.

In the world outside, it doesn\'t need education to run a business well. Societal exposure / street-smartness is the key. There\'s plenty of businessmen out there who had never attended school at all. Many even grew up fighting for territories together with their parents at the age when they were still wearing nappies with a big hole at their private parts. These businesses are still surviving well. While the businesses run / managed by scholars or those with well-decorated papers, look at the news announcements all over the world everyday...

Hee hee, another typical example, look at the performance of Temasek recently. There\'s more bad news brewing in the pipeline. Mrs LHL is not stepping down for fun. Remember, several months after LHY stepped down as CEO of Singtel, the saga with Shin Corp, Thailand\'s telecomms company, erupted.

Trying very,very hard to stay positive & optimistic during this gloomy tough year but....everyday i encounter more depressing shocks liked -

- Heard from my Banking Clients - NO bonus or increment or entertainment allowances ( this will surely hit KTVs !!! )

- Heard from my IT Clients - More CUTS - salary,transport & travelling allowances - It's a "take it or quit if U not happy" situation ! And more firing if Q results have drastic falls or missed targets !!!

- Heard from MNCs Manufacturing Clients - this sector really tough going because lack of orders !!! More firing soon !!! Heard that MBAs & PHDs applying to Production Supt position !!!....

It'll be a very very tough ride in the coming months,BROs ! Spend wisely !!!

In several countries in the region, several of my friends have already experienced shorter work weeks. ie, work 3 days a week, or fewer hours per week, pro-rata pay cut. Yes, take home pay is lesser, but they work less & have more personal time. Many are even taking this opportunity when they have more time, to attend upgrading courses.

Spending wisely, I should say, this should be practised & cultivated even during good & boom times! But some fellows in another thread, when u mention think b4 u spend, they regard it as being stingy or having cash-flow problems. And from their tone, it sounds like cash-flow problems is a crime! Hee hee, this economic crisis now largely circulates around cash-flow problems, so now, in their opinion, the whole world are criminals?

I would say, I pity SGPean guys. SG gals play hard to get, but the guys still need to release. Even those wif gfs or married, their gfs or wives might not give them as much as they need to release. Wif reduced take home pay, and their gfs / wives are not letting them release enuf, this may end up disastrous. In most other Asian countries, it is regarded culturally as the wife\'s duty to serve (let their husband fuck) her husband. That\'s why, it\'s not so bad for other Asian men to reduce their take home pay, they\'ll just cheong lesser, have more time at home & fuck their wives / gfs! Their wives & gfs are also more ready & willing to eat lesser, \"eat porridge when they cant afford rice\", ie, 有粥吃粥，有饭吃饭。 SG gals, many, if not most of them, will tell u go fly kite, they will go look for another guy that can satisfy their comfort / material needs.

From another point of view, that\'s why the crime rates usually oso goes up during recessions / economic crisises.

Another thought came into my mind few days ago, that is the situation of Indonesia (no offence to the Indonesians). Thinking back, during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, violence erupted in Indonesia. Of course, there were oso political agenda.

Currently there\'s alot of illegal immigrants in Msia, and they contribute a large part to the crim rate in Msia. When they get hungrier, SGP is gonna be an attractive target, especially since SGP keep telling the whole world about it\'s successes & wealth. Also, looking at several military conflicts in other parts of the world, the UN no doubt voices out verbal condemnations, but they don\'t send military intervention immediately, if at all!!! I would say, by the time the UN sends military intervention, SGP would have been badly damaged oredi.

So if the military in Indonesia goes berserk & launches an attack on SGP, how is SGP gonna handle / cope wif it? Wif most of the SGP soldiers nowadays wearing specs & reading more books then fist-fighting, eating in the cook-houses \"buffet-style\", dont even wash their own metal trays / mess tins! How long can SGP protect itself from the physically more aggressive Indonesians?

The Govt\'s strategy of getting lotsa investments from US & Europe, indirectly, they hope these Govts will oso wanna protect their investments if there\'s any attempt to attack SGP, but now, most, if not all of these foreign enterprises, their home countries are oso in deep financial shit, they\'re likely too busy & headache with matters in their home country, many have even withdrawn their investments!

hur hur, just read an economic report, SGP is 10th most expensive city in the world. In Asia, SGP is 3rd most expensive city, after Tokyo & Osaka.

That means, going overseas, ie, spending the weekend in Asia outside SGP & Japan, is cheaper than being in SGP!!! SGP is oso more expensive than many ang moh cities now!!!

Therefore, pple go on holiday or get outta SGP is still cheaper than being in SGP!!!

Disagree with you there, bro. The worst is yet to come. People are spending with their excesses which will dry up pretty soon.

However, I reckon the sex industry will not be hit that hard as people still need to ease spring (maybe downgrade to cheaper WLs). KTVs will be harder hit as most spend there on companys' expenses.

Don't you notice that there are many more $50 WLs around now?

Ktvs business is getting slow nowadays. Guess most of the gals willing to work as Fls...During this recession it is consumers market.

Been observing that economy has begin to pick up again as more houses and cars are sold. Moreover stock market is soaring too. One sector which is facing more pressure is taxi as more people are buying cars . Fls business will sure boom again.
