Another complaint is that TS is KPKB here and being fake and insincere but I believed he has clarified that it was because he somehow wanted to just bare his thoughts about his feeling that it is getting more and more difficult to maintain his standard of living (ln my words).

There are brothers who provided advice or suggestions on how to cope but I guess TS does not really need them because he is not struggling to make ends meet! We have our own preferences and reference as well as unique personal characteristics. So there is no need to compare exactly.

There are those who save more than 50% of their income and some who save only 10% or less. These are personal choices and there is no right or wrong. BUT my FA aka insurance agent friend would tell me otherwise.

This is a very interesting thread and should continue a while more. Maybe TS can be less defensively and we ca all agree to disagree. For those who are critical of TS maybe you can look up his profile and view his listings there instead of reading this thread because there were some misunderstandings here and there.

My army friends - some are indeed idiots in some sense (messy family, gambling problems, etc.) but I accept them as brothers and they the same (I hope) of me despite my own idiosyncrasies.

Next we have to understand that the middle class is a very wide class here. A middle class person may be living in HDB or condominium. His combined household may be from 5K upwards (again this may not be accurate as economists my have a different number). I agree middle income means a wide range.
Bt very very few mid income got 1 mill cash.
Most ppl can't save 50% of income a month & he & his wife didn't make 10k when they graduated immdiately

So that means 15 yr cash needs to save more than 30 yrs. More like 40 to 50 yr. And Ts said he wasn't stingy when younger.

The median household income in sg earned $8,292 in 2014 according to the Department of Statistics. It is not far from $10,000. I have not falsely labelled myself.

I owned a Jap car, 9years old liao.. sweating about getting a new car next year when COE expire, can't imagine dumping about 60-70K cash for a 120K jap car (average pricing now)

I have 1 kid in primary school, in my mid 40s. Parents staying with my brother, but i still give them allowances

Am i starving? No, life is ok, not fantastic but ok.. go to restaurant once in a while but mostly hawker centre or coffee shop... handphone dont have data plan, basic model from Telco everytime i renew my contract.

I'm more of a saver, don't really go holidays abroad frequently and most of the weekends, i prefer to play games on computer at home...

Will i retire comfortably? Probably not.. do not have the guts to start a business on my own, got con out of 30K a few years back trying to do a franchise... *sigh* .. still searching on how to have a 2nd stream of income..

Tried renting out 1 spare room but too much problem with tenant after 1 year, so kick him out.. so still searching for 2nd stream of income.. hahahahah

Maybe i'm "upper" middle class but i do not have sense of "relaxation" , worried about rising cost, retirement, kid's education etc etc etc..

Actually 10k combined is considered middle class ba... If we go by quantiles. Upper middle is around 14 and up or something if I remember correctly.
