Hi Fireshark,

I've always been fascinated about life in Prison and I've visited Prisons open to tourists overseas and often hoped that Changi Prison would be open to visitors for them to witness first hand how life will be life inside, and hopefully deter people from committing crimes. Thank you for sharing so much here.

And for the others as well, whether or not you came out of prison or not, the most important thing is to reflect on the mistake and never make it again. Life may not be plainsailing upon release but the most important is that freedom is attained once again. Never give up, and persist in life even though society may be harsh towards ex-convicts. But at the end of the day, repentance is the most important and I wish everyone the best in life ahead.

Great sharing abt prison life so far....but as i am always thinking abt sex......I wonder if the female inmates in changi women prison do each other at night

heard from a female friend who did time in Changi Womens Prison in 1993 that there are quite a number of lesbians in there. don't know if they "converted" in there or were already one before imprisonment.

she also said that they were only give a specific number of sanitary pad per month for their menses so those with heavy flow will have problem.

Don't know much about female prison but I do know when female inmates come to Changi Clusters A clinic for X-ray scan, all the male inmates will be need to turn around and the warden officers will block all the view of the female inmates. They do not allow male and female inmates interact at all.

Bro fireshark, got record in spore is very very common. No need to scared how pple look at us. Is how u look at urself. If u work hard and good pple gt eyes to see. hope that i won't offend any bros by posting it here. remember that guy MOE scholar who got convicted in England for 'production' of child porn? his teacher covered up for his past (peeping at a female in the toilet) by not mentioning it in his application for his schalorship as they thought he was already a changed person. another recent example is, the disqualification of quite a number of real estate agents as they has past criminal records. i know the MOE guy may just be an isolated case, my question is should our singapore society be as forgiving to them (in the second example that i have given) n if we do, how do we assure ourselves that they will not go back to the past? what i mean is that any bros hv any suggestions on what type of systems of control and monitoring can be in place to provide assurance to the public in general and to help genuine bros who had turn over a new leaf to integrate back into the society?

Hi Bro,

Look at it this way.

If you declare you have been to prison before (during interview), 99.99999999999999999999999% you won't get the job.
You have no choice. You have a valid reason. You need a job to survive.

Concentrate on the job and hope for the best. Turn in a good performance and let your superior feel that you are a hardworking employee.
If sway sway the background check is not favourable to you, at least you still have a fighting chance and even if they terminate you, they still pay you.
Keep cool and don't think of the bad side. Trust me, it will affect your work.

SGP is a small place, which is also a very unforgiving place.
Any systems of control/measures introduced to monitor the actions of ex-offenders is going to be a big strain (emotionally and financially) on those who really genuinely wanted to integrate back to the society.
Most ex-offenders I believe, will just want their past to be covered rather than being digged up.
You want others to split open your old scar again?????

no 1 will spent time and check background in the job application to get the truth

unless he have nothing else better to do
unless some1 tell him about your past
unless you are going to interview for bodyguard for politicans or businessman

By experience, I suggest bros who came out from prison to deny saying you were ever convicted during your interview.
Below are the reasons why:

1) Pte Ltds have no way to check your records, through the police or CID.

2) Yellow Ribbon Project is an hoax. The money are used to probably upgrade the prison warden's lifestyle, rather then prisoners.

3) Singapore is still a conservative society. Ex-cons = society's disgrace, forever.

4) Blame the heroin, it was the 70s-90s that heroin addicts who made the society believe whoever went into jail/DRCs, are doomed for good.

5) I am speaking of this by experiece. I was sentenced 7 years and 12 strokes. I came out a few years ago, was honest in my interviews, and couldnt get any jobs. When I finally lied, I got a job.
