Reading this somewhat reminds me of my army days...BMT + vocation training. I wasn't enlisted via the mainstream BMT, I was enlisted via mono-intake. No, I wasn't in the Commando nor Naval Diver, but I regretted keng-ing during medical fitness check-up. I was eligible to be a Commando / Naval Diver, but I was thinking, NS is gangmen debt, so siao on for what? Just Serve And Fark-off, Serve And Forget lah.

Every week, from Sun book-in to Sat book-out, we sleep a total of less than 8 hrs! Every morning, by the time we finish 5BX, it was barely 7 am, often, when sitting on the field, we can see some "mild smoke" coming out of our bodies! We were so warmed up vs the morning cool temperature and moist.

The number of push-ups we had daily, we counted before, but I forgot the count already (so many years ago), but it's a real tekan-ning way of counting. Our commanders used this way of counting: count starting from 0, but we don't count by numbers, we count by the spelling of the numbers! SO 0 is Z-E-R-O, 1 push-up per alphabet, 4 push-ups. By the time we count T-W-E-N-T-Y, it's 147 push-ups! For those who cannot do proper push-ups, the commanders placed their legs on the bars of the beds, sometimes also on the higher deck bed!

Stand-by-bed was often carrying our metal cabinets several floors down to the parade square (in front of coy admin office area), stand-by-bed at the parade sq, and then up, and then down again. Daily morning area cleaning was done in Full-Battle-Order.

Our 1st 8 km road march, after we came back, it was in the hot afternoon, many of us showed faces of shackness during warm-down exercise and unable to do the exercises properly. Then the chief PTI was unhappy, we so shack right? Ok, all of us now go run SOC, in our Full-Battle-Order!

There was 1 incident during BMT, before a battalion parade, we didn't had enough time and the queue at the barber was damn long. The unlucky ones who didn't get their turn at the barber to trim their hair kena weekend confinement for our hair being too long. 2 guys in my coy used their electric shavers to help trim each others' hair. They were called out to stand in front of the whole coy, stand face-to-face and slap each other for 10 mins! Needless to say, their also kena wkend confinement

Wkend book-outs was barely 24 hrs. We normally book-out on early evenings of Sat, about 5.30 pm to 7 pm, and book-in by 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm on Sun. 1 of my platoonmate's father passed away during BMT, he was only allowed to book-out late at night to attend the wake, 10+ or 11 pm, but must book-in by 5.30 or 6 am! On the day of funeral, I think he wasn't allowed to book-out!

So wkend book-outs were very precious, but the commanders instilled further mental torture by finding faults with some pple and then kena wkend confinement. Sometimes, when the battalion or coy kena some wkend duty to support some other activities, such as sentry duty for live-firing exercises by other battalions, the unlucky platoon kena arrowed may kena wkend confinement. The CSM simply find some faults, then whole platoon kena confinement and perform sentry duty. I remember kena this sentry duty during 1 CNY eve! Even book-outs for Public Holidays was often less than 24 hrs.

I remember for 1 PH, we came back from field training at about 10+ or 11 pm. Then we kena played throughout the whole night by stripping and assemblying our rifles / other weapons. Many of us can strip the M16 in less than 20 sec, also assemble back in less than 20 sec. But the way we kena played, it's not only stripping and assemblying, we also kena getting to partner with our buddies to strip and assemble rifles and other weapons together, in 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, etc. Until about 6 am, then we go eat breakfast and book-out ard 7 am. Book-in was about 7 - 8 pm tat same evening. I think I heard 1 of the reasons is cos the plan for that field training was till midnight, and in case it ended even later, so breakfast was indented. If they let us book-out when we came back, then nobody will eat the breakfast, then the commanders might be charged!

2 nights before our BMT POP, we were busy preparing, ie, cleaning rifles, polishing boots, belts, starching our Parade Uniforms, yes, we had to set aside 1 set of our no 4 uniform, starch and iron to wear for Parades. Then we kena turn-out, changed to our Parade wear + full-battle-order, go for forced march till early morning, then run SOC in our Parade wear + full-battle-order!

Making telephone calls was a "privilege" we don't have that often. Whenever we had, the queues at the pay-phones (only 3 such phones serving 3 coys) was super long. Those days, hps were not common, and hps were also not allowed into the camp. Those caught will face very serious punishment. Many of those whose gfs were not understanding, r'ships were on the rocks and many broke up. I think 1 guy in my coy, his gf broke off with him. It seems subsequently, his gf had another bf. During 1 of the book-outs, I think he tried to kill his gf!

Many of us could not take the torture mentally / physically, many of us also sustained lifelong injuries. At least 1 of guy had injuries to his balls, the doc said he cannot have children in future! Some tried to commit suicide, but none died. Some even abused / inflicted injuries on themselves so as to get Attend C or even downgraded. Some went mentally insane. By BMT POP, I think the number of medical downgrades was about the size of 1 coy!

1 guy in my coy, while prowling during guard duty, he was so shacked his eyes were basically closed several secs while walking. It happened several times, and on 1 time, he was caught by guard comm or BOS (can't remember). He was sent to DB. When he came out, he said DB was ok, not that siong. My friends / schoolmates in Commando and Naval Divers also said, they are not much more siong than us, maybe slightly better than us!

Thinking back, those girls / gfs who are not understanding, only know how to demand, throw tantrums, etc, they don't know how / what we suffered. V often, we asked ourselves, why are we going through all these? What are we doing these for? Of course, gangmen tells everyone, for the peace and security of the country, to protect our families and loved ones. We went through all these shit, and this is how the gfs respond? Pui! Those girls are not worth the protection!

Often, I feel they deserve to be molested / raped / robbed, have a poorer security environment, then they will appreciate the security they enjoy now, and the presence of men beside them!

Talking Re: 164 Days in Singapore Changi Prison

National service is different from Changi Prison. It is 2 different things all together, NS is what every able men of this country need to do. I ROD 25 yrs ago, tcss a bit here. Serve time at Changi Prison is payback, debts to the society.

Anyway, it is worth to mention for the benefits of young men who had ROD few yrs ago. Of course not forgetting rest in Hometeam or CD, if it is still in ops this gen.

Army in the 80s was, not many highly educated officers. And, heard some full time guys said, we intend stuffs to HQ. By the time it is approve, 2yrs had passed.

$ not enough, this gen they have got the $ awards. Certain degress it work, encourage people to exercise while looking at the monetary awards. Could be, that is a reason man collapse even if they were not well.

As this topic is on serve time, i recalled 25 yrs ago saw a group of special imates. That time was Kranji DB, today i don't sure. Anyway this group of young men came to our camp, few times a week doing manual duties.

They were those men which refuse to pickup weapons, they prefer to serve 3yrs in DB. We TCSS with their guards, cannot speak to them because they are imates, yes they were.

The guards told us, they were allright no giving troubles. Follow instructions just they choose this instead of serve 2 2.5 yrs of NS.

That why all PC/ Sergeant are extra nice during range/ life firing... 1 of my coy mate eventually shot his PC during range then commit suicide. Come to think of it, it already 18yrs ago since I did my BMT in Tekong...

Many guys are physically handicapped for the rest of their lives! And some guys also went mentally insane. I remember, at that time, for many of us, it was either make or break mentally.

1 of the guys in my unit that committed suicide, his father was some politician, or had some political background / connection. But still, nothing happened to any of the commanders. I guess his father's background / connection is not strong enough. The CO can talk and joke about it some more, and warning us not to involve politicians into MINDEF / SAF's detailed affairs, or we may be charged with divulging military information.

As for the gangmen (肛门), I have already quit SG some years ago, they give $ also don't have my share already. Anyway, reading the many posts in this forum, and some news every now and then, all I can say is, “新加坡政府靠得住,母猪也会爬上树!” For those who depend or are waiting for gangmen to give $, all I can say is, "good luck to him". The trend is always, giving $ to 1 pocket, and then taking more $ from the other pocket!

Times have changed. There is the internet these days. Once details of an incident is posted online, the SAF got to act in a way that satisfies the public. In the 80s and 90s, a lot of incidents get swept under the blanket. Now, they can't cover up like they used to do anymore. Every death or serious injury you can read from Straits Times. You mean no one died or gets injured during our time?

Talking Downtown East

I predict next yr, the focus point is at Downtown East, me no lawman. Curious suddenly the Chinese young punks, seem to be wanting to take over that place. Past yrs, i allreally notice small group of Mud hanging around here, there normally they sharp eyes but kept to themselves.

Pretty soon they are going to chase the current group away, only if people know never to venture into others homeground. This country also not small until cannot find a pte corner.

Good thing is the biz operators, this unwanted incident create more biz sense. People out of curious will go there to experience the tense situation. So long this people don't get involve, no problem is not like the young punk groups are into protection $.

This gen parents rich, no need for this type of shits.
