Jamie: how? I'm already married.....

Me: I've some plans..... but why would they think that Jie Lun is Cory's kid?

She kept quiet for a while before she spoke.

Jamie: After the marriage, I had sex with him that night and he thought that he made me pregnant because of that 1 time.....

I was puzzled.

Me: one time?

Jamie: yes..... I had to do it with him that 1 time in order to protect our child....... but since then, I never allowed him to touch me.....

With her information and based on the collective data that I had from Qai, Chen and Avery, everything became clearer to me now.

Cory and Jamie were staying in the same house. Their direct neighbour was Kylie, who was Cory's sister, and Kylie's neighbour were William and Beth, Cory's parents.

On weekdays, the child would be staying in his grandparent's place and only on Saturday mornings, Jamie would head over to bring him home. On Sunday evenings, she would need to send him over again. That Monday when I saw the child with the couple, I found out from Qai that it was due to William's birthday and the kid was not send back to his grandparent's place the previous evening.

Cory's schedule was repetitive over the 1 month when Chen investigated him. He was not working but everyday, he would be out. Normally, he would head out at about 6pm and the general deduction was that he was sleeping in since he would return home only at 10am in the morning of the same day.

During the time he was out, he would meet his friends and head to a different club where he would meet different local girls. These girls were not working girls and from there, they would head to a different hotel each night with their latest catch.

On weekdays, Jamie would be out by 8am to head to the charity organization and by the time she was back, he had already left the house. On Saturdays, she would bring the child out alone in the morning and return home in the evenings.

Only on the one Sunday every month, the 3 of them would head out around 3pm before joining his parents for dinner before he disappeared again. Apparently based on both their lifestyles, they were not seeing each other most of the time.

Since they were married 4 years ago and she was not giving him any sex, it was little wonder that he had to seek else where to release his needs.

Jamie: So how are you going to bring us away from them? Beth and William are not easy people and I can't just tell them that I want a divorce.....

I told her about my plans and she looked at me in awe.

Jamie: wow..... you..... you're serious?

I nodded.

Jamie: you have changed so much.....

Me: yes..... setting up a business and making it successful was not easy, especially in a foreign country where it was a dog eat dog world..... so do I scare you?

Jamie: erm.... no.... it's not that.....

Me: ok... well, so what do you think?

There was a look of determination on her face.

Jamie: I'm all for it......

She pointed up.

Jamie: Anyway, you said that you hired PIs to locate me at the elderly's flat.... Is Avery also a PI?

Me: nope.... she's one of my ex that I told you about previously....

She looked shocked.

Jamie: WHAT?!!..... YOUR EX!?

Me: ssshhhh..... not so loud..... and yes.... my ex....

Jamie: you asked your ex to get close to me?! Are you mad?! And why are you sticking with her again?! Are you a couple with her?! Did you have sex with her again?!

Me: aiyo..... wait.... let me explain.....

I told her everything about Avery and I but she still did not looked too pleased.

Me: Are you jealous?

Jamie: hmmppphhhff! I'm not!

Me: there's really nothing between us.... it's purely because I saved her from drugs.....

Jamie: whatever!

She folded her arms across her chest and looked away from me angrily.

I went over and hugged her.

Me: baby.... you should know that you're the only one I love.....

She turned her face and looked into my eyes. Her anger had dissipated into thin air and was replaced by a loving look.

Jamie: baby..... I missed you so so so much....

Me: I know.....

Jamie: my heart was crying on that day when we were on Kent Ridge..... but I couldn't tell you.... the driver will tell her about it.....

Me: Since that day, for 4 years, I thought you had stopped loving me..... but I know now..... I'm sorry you had to suffer....

Jamie: It had nothing to do with you..... it's my decision and I deserved to suffer..... I should be the one to apologize for hurting you instead....

Me: Remember that time on the ship when we were stranded? I said we should stop apologizing to each other?

She giggled as she recalled the incident.

Jamie: hehe.... ok....

Me: anyway, why did you cut your hair?

Previously, she had long hair but since I saw her again, she had kept it short, in a bob-style.

Jamie: I did it on purpose..... he don't like this style..... that's why I cut it to discourage him from trying to come on me...... do you also hate this look?

Me: don't worry..... You're still as beautiful.....

She blushed again.

Me: baby.... are you feeling shy?

Jamie: no.... it's just that we were apart for so long.... I've never thought that I would ever get to hear you say it again.

I leaned forward and kissed her on her forehead. When I cupped her breasts, she pushed my hand away gently.

Jamie: baby.... if she comes down, she'll see us..... I am really uncomfortable about it....

Me: ok..... anyway, they've grown a little larger didn't they?

Jamie: erm.... yes..... after the birth of our kid.....

Suddenly, the engine of the boat was cut and the sound of the anchor splashing into the sea could be heard. Automatically, we moved apart.

Shortly, Avery opened the door to the cabin.

Avery: guys.... I know you have lots to catch up on and sorry for the interruption.....

Me: what is it?

Avery: we have 30mins to return the boat......

Me: oh..... that's fast....

Avery: sorry.... maybe I can call the boat company to extend the time?

Me: no.... we can't.... we cannot allow the chauffeur to suspect anything.....

I looked out the cabin and saw that we were roughly back at the same spot where I came on board. I turned to Jamie.

Me: baby.... wait for me patiently ok?

She nodded.

Jamie: be careful when you paddle back.....

Me: just like the old times....

She smiled.

Jamie: I'll miss you....

Me: me too........ use the phone I passed to you to call me if you want to talk to me..... remember, don't use your own phone....

She nodded.

They watched as I got my kayak back into the water and started to paddle back to shore.

Behind me, I watched as their yacht came into life and started to power back towards Changi.

Once they were back at the marina, Avery texted me to inform me that they were back and Jamie had left with her chauffeur safely.

Later in the afternoon, Jamie texted me with the phone that I gave her to inform me that she will be meeting her friends for shopping.

Wednesday

I called up Qai.

Qai (M): hey brother..... what's up?

Me (M): I need one more favour from you.....

Qai (M): what is it?

I told him what I wanted.

Me (M): Is it too difficult?....

Qai (M): nah.... nothing is too difficult for me.... I'll get it done......

Me (M): thanks.....

After we hung up, I called Chen with the other phone.

Me: Hi.... it's me....

Chen: yes sir..... what can I do for you this time?

Me: I need photos of the man that you had previously helped me investigated on.....

Chen: what kind of photos?

I told him what I needed.

Chen: hmm.... it's not easy....

Me: can it be done?

Chen: haha.... for me, there's nothing that cannot be done......

Me: good... what's the price?

Chen: 50k..... and it'll take a little more time for that....

Given the complexity of the job I gave him, I did not flinched at the amount. As an unwritten rule, I did not questioned how he was going to achieve it. If he said that it could be done, he would be able to deliver his promise.

Me: ok....

After that, I called up Jason and once again, he got his henchman to hand the deposit to Chen.

He wanted to know what was happening but I told him that I will let him know in due course.

For the next month, I stayed low and tried not to head out too much.

Not surprisingly, even though I had no further instructions for her, Avery continued to help out with the charity. She wanted to give back to society so that she would be able to help those in needs.

Jamie texted me occasionally using the phone I gave her but our messages were short. She told me that she missed me very much but regardless of how long, she would continue to wait for me. In the meantime, she continued with her daily activities as usual.

At the end of the month, my parents had returned from their trip and I picked them from the airport.

Me: hi dad, hi mum..... how was your trip?

Dad: haha.... tiring..... but I'm glad we did it....

Mum: yah.... it was tiring to live in a hotel.....

Dad: So, have you settled the matter with our tenants? Have they moved out?

I smiled sheepishly.

Me: nope.... I've agreed and extended their contract......

Mum did not looked too happy.

Mum: what?! then where are we going to stay? I'm not going to stay in a hotel again!

Me: erm.... I've rented a house for the both of you....

Mum: house?! but....

Me: well, mum, I'm sure you don't want to chase the poor tenant's family out do you?

dad: that's true..... they're not well to do and won't be able to find such a low price out there..... dear, let's go to our the new place then.....

Mum: what about my stuffs?

Me: I've already sent them all to your new place....

Dad: hmmm..... our new place..... Scott, does it mean that you are not staying with us?

Me: nope..... but don't worry..... I won't be flying off and leave you both here alone again..... and your place is just 4 streets away.....

After more grumbling from my mum, I sent them to the new condo that I had gotten Avery to rent for them.

1 month later (Monday)

Qai called me.

He had gotten all the materials I wanted. I had gotten Qai to hack into Cory's computer and emails which he had sent to an encrypted site for me to download.

Once I had all the information, I started to go through them.

A large amount was porn videos and I was not interested in them. Not surprisingly, there was no photos of Jamie or Jie Lun in the mass of information except from their marriage ceremony. Looking at the photos, I could see that although Jamie was smiling in everyone of them, her eyes were not. There were a few photos when they went on their honeymoon but in everyone of them she was no longer pretending to smile.

The rest of the information were emails and these were what I was interested in. However, there were thousands of emails and going through every single one of them was a taxing process but I kept at it.

Finally, after another month, I had all the information I needed.

Besides sleeping around, over the years, I was surprised that Cory had a few mistresses as during the few months that I investigated him, he had none.

However, each of them lasted only a few months and after breaking off, he would pay them some money. From the emails, I got all their names and contacts of these women and kept them in my safe.

Around the same time, Chen called me. He told me that he had everything I wanted. As before, I got Jason to get his henchman to do the cash exchange.

Once Jason had the photos with him, we agreed to meet up at Sepang Bedok.

Jason (H): wah bro..... what is this stack of thing? Cash?

He passed me the huge envelope that was on his lap.

Me (H): nah.... it's not that.....

Jason (H): you had disappeared for the last few months and suddenly appeared again..... are you ready to tell me what is happening?....

I told him about Jamie and everything that had happened. When I finished, he smiled and shook his head.

Jason (H): Wa..... CB (hokkien vulgarity)..... you think you acting in a drama serial is it? ..... ok.... so, tell me how you want me to help you?

I told him my plans.

Me (H): So at the end of it, I need you to send a guy to pick her up at a specific location and send her to me.....

Jason (H): Just that?

Me (H): yes....

Jason (H): I'll go with my guy then.....

Me (H): har? you don't have to..... just send a guy.....

Jason (H): nah.... I don't want him to screw up....

Me (H): there's really no need for that.....

Jason (H): hey, what are brothers for?.... so when do you need me to do that?

Me (H): Soon..... but I'll let you know the date and time....

Jason (H): great.... I'll make sure you get your woman back..... but have you settled her parents?

Me (H): yes.... I'm already making arrangements..... one more thing....... can you arrange a safe house for us?

Jason (H): wa! Safe house?! You're not joking right?

Me (H): erm... I'm not joking..... Once we got her away, I'm sure her in-laws will investigate and I would be the prime suspect.... I don't want them to find out where I'm staying....

Jason (H): hmm..... I see.... ok..... I'll settle this for you....

Me (H): Thanks bro.... let me know how much and I'll return you the money....

He rolled his eyes.

Jason (H): Stop talking about money with me..... we're brothers.....

When I arrived home, I opened up the sealed enveloped. In it were about 100 photos of 15 different girls. In everyone of the photos, Cory and the girls were naked and in different stages of having sex, in different hotels.

There was no way to ask Chen how he got these photos but I could easily guess.

Although I was not sure if the girls were normal girls or working girls, Chen had definitely engaged them and got them to be present the club that Cory was patronizing that night.

Of course, Cory would have his own taste but looking at most of the girls, they all had long hair and slim. Chen must have specifically selected them to increase the chances that Cory will take a liking to them.

From the angle that the photos were, they were definitely taken by the girls.

No wonder the cost was so high as these girls would not have come cheap.

I kept them into the safe together with the emails that Qai had provided me.

Now, I had to wait for Jamie to contact me again.

Tuesday

Jamie texted me to inform me that she was at a spa and I told her to call me when the masseuse was not in the room.

5mins later, my phone rang.

Jamie: Hi baby..... what is it?

Me: ok.... I'm ready to get you away but you need to tell me when is the best time.....

Jamie: oh.... that's great.....

I told her my plans briefly.

Jamie: hehe.... your timing couldn't be better..... Beth, Cory, me and our boy will be having lunch on this Friday at a Hokkien restaurant.....

She told me the exact location of the restaurant which was on the 5th story of a carpark of a bank in town. I asked her about the time and she provided me.

Jamie: oppss.... the masseuse is coming back.... I've got to go.....

Me: remember to pass all those documents that I told you about, to Avery tomorrow....

Jamie: ok.... love you.....

She hung up after that.

I called Jason and he acknowledged the time and location. He said that he will be there to pick her up.

Thereafter, I called up another of my contact who was working in GSM building that was located near Bugis and he helped me to make some other arrangements.


Wednesday

Avery met me in the night and handed me all the documents that Jamie had passed to her.


Thursday

I went home to visit my parents and was glad that they were settling into the apartment.

Me: Mum... dad.... I have something to speak to you....

Mum: what is it?

She looked at me curiously.

Me: erm.... please have a seat and I'll tell you.....

They were astounded when I told them about Jamie and our child. They did not asked me any questions but paid attention to everything I told them. Once I finished the story, mum immediately pulled my ears and her anger surfaced.

Mum: Very funny Scott!

Me: mum.... what?

Mum: Why didn't you let us know?!.... It's such an important matter and you kept it to yourself for the last 4 years!....

Me: Mum! I didn't know that I have a kid until the last few months!

She was still twisting my ear and it was getting painful.

Me: Ouchh! It's not my fault!.....

Mum: Suddenly I have a grandchild! and the woman is another man wife! and you say that it's not your fault?!......

Me: Mum! she don't love him......

Mum: Shut up Scott..... you got a woman pregnant before you marry her and left her all alone!.... no wonder she had to marry the other guy!

Me: I didn't say that! OUCHHHHH!!!

Mum: That's what happened!

Suddenly dad laughed loudly and the both of us stared at him.

dad: haha..... Dear..... go easy on him..... or you'll twist his ear off.....

Finally, she released me angrily and folded her arms.

dad: ok Scott.... since now you know all about it, what are you going to do about the kid? You can't just go to their family and ask them to return you the child.... after all, they had nurtured him for the past 3 years.....

I told them my plans briefly and my mum got even angrier. She refused to speak to me after that but dad agreed with what I was about to do. Before my mum could lay her hands on me again, dad ushered me out of their place.

Later that afternoon, I went out with Avery and to buy another phone for Jamie, signing up the new number under her name.

As evening approached, I started to get nervous and went through my plans again, making sure that there was no loop holes. If there was no hiccups, Jason should be able to bring her to me.



Friday

I drove down to Boon Tat street around noon and found a parking lot. From there, I went to a coffee shop and waited.

My plan was straightforward.

Cory, Beth, Jamie and our child would be having lunch at the restaurant. When they were in the middle of the lunch, she would excused herself to bring the child to the toilet. From there, she would head out with our child to the parking lot where Jason was waiting for her.

At 1pm, Jason called me. I had previously shown him her photo and he had seen them going into the restaurant.

I crossed my fingers and hoped that she would be able to do everything in accordance to our plan.

It was a long wait and my palms were starting to sweat. I thought about all the possible scenarios that could happen.

What if Beth or Cory also went to the toilet with her? What if she was unable to get away? what if the child refused to go to the washroom with her?

There were so much negative thoughts in my head at that point in time.

By 3pm, Jason had still not called me and I was getting worried that my plan had failed.

I got up and went to my car, thinking if I should call him when my phone suddenly rang.

Jason: Bro!

He was panting.

Jason: I've got her and your kid......

Suddenly I was relieved.

Jason: where are you?

I told him the exact location.

Jason: no..... too many people..... I'll meet you at Wallich Street, the open air carpark there..... go now.....

There was tension in his voice and immediately, I started my engine.

I arrived in about 10mins and his car was still not there. I was about to call him when he turned into the carpark.

They parked beside me but only Jamie and my kid came out and got into my backseat. He indicated me to wind down my window.

Jason: I've to snatch her from them..... she'll tell you about it..... now go.....

Me: Ok.... thanks bro....

I started to drive off, heading towards GSM building as fast as I could but within the speed limit.

This was the 2nd time when I saw Jie Lun and I turned my head to smile at him.

Me: Hi.... handsome boy.....

He looked at me and smiled.

Jie Lun: Uncle.....

Me: Oh..... that's sweet.....

I was happy that he seemed to remember me even though we had only met once. However, I turned to her.

Me: baby.... so, what happened?

Jamie: I couldn't get away...... She was carrying him all the while..... so after the luncheon ended and we were walking out from the restaurant into the carpark, Jason's man ran over and snatch our boy from her...... then we all ran back to the car....

Me: I'm sure they'll report the incident to the police, thinking that Jason kidnap the kid.... we'll have to get to the lawyer fast.....

Before long, we arrived at GSM building.

We were here to meet up with a lawyer who specialized in divorce cases. She was recommended by my own company lawyer, Michael, who helped me in the sale of my company. He was the one that I had asked to help me to book the appointment with her.

The receptionist showed us to a room. After knocking on the door, we went in.

I had never met Tiffany before. With her shoulder length grey hair and a pair of dark rimmed specs, she had a motherly appearance.

She had been expecting us and gestured us to the chairs in front of her.

Tiffany: You must be Scott....

She looked at Jamie and Jie Lun and frowned before turning back to me.

Tiffany: so.... you are looking to divorce this woman?

Me: Not me Tiffany..... we're not married..... Jamie's looking for a divorce and I'm just bringing her here.....

Tiffany: hmm.... I see.....

She turned to Jamie.

Tiffany: Jamie.... I'm not going to dissuade you..... but on what grounds are you looking for a divorce?

Jamie: unfaithfulness from my spouse.......

I handed her some of the photos of Cory that Chen had gotten for me and also some of the emails from his previous mistresses. She went through them briefly before raising one of her eyebrow and shook her head.

Tiffany: hmmm.... Scott, why are you showing me these emails? You know that I shouldn't be seeing them, right? In fact, you shouldn't be even having them.....

Me: yes.... but those are the reasons......

Tiffany: please take these back and don't show these to anyone else ever again..... They're illegal..... anyway, this time, I'll pretend I didn't see them......

I took back the documents but kept the photos with her.

She turned back to Jamie.

Tiffany: these photos are good enough reasons for you to ask for a divorce if he decides to contest it.....

Jamie nodded.

Tiffany: so what are your expectations from him?

Jamie: nothing.....

Tiffany: Nothing?

Jamie: yes..... my spouse is currently not working and he does not have any assets.....

Tiffany: do you mean that he live off you?

Jamie: no.... his mum gave him an allowance every month.... I don't know how much but I think it's in the range of about 15 - 20k..... we stay in a house that is owned by his parents......

Tiffany: I see.... then does he gives you anything from the allowance?

Jamie: nope..... my allowance of 4k is provided by his mum as well......

Tiffany raised her eyebrows as she did not seemed to believe that someone at their age were not working and were sponging off their parents.

Jamie: his parents does not allow us to work.... and they are filthy rich....

Tiffany: ah.... I see....

She turned to look at our child who had been quietly sitting on Jamie's lap all along.

Tiffany: I believed that you'll want custody of your kid but if you have no income, then it's going to be difficult.....

Jamie: He's not the child of the guy who you saw in the photo.... it's his....

She pointed to me and Tiffany blinked her eyes.

Tiffany: wait.... do you mean to say that the both of you had an affair and this kid is out of your wedlock?

Jamie: nope...

She explained the entire scenario to Tiffany. After she had finished Tiffany smiled.

Tiffany: Now I understand..... but since they had been supporting the child and thought that the child was conceived with your spouse, they might want to contest.....

Me: Is there any way to stop them from having custody?

Tiffany: simple..... just go and get a DNA test.... you will have a good case after this but they may sue you.....

Jamie looked at me and I placed a hand on her shoulder to assure her.

Me: let them sue then......

Tiffany: hmmm.... but there's a chance they might not...... this is what you should do....

She gave us the advice and we nodded our head.

Tiffany: ok..... I'll help you to process.... did you bring the documents?

Those are the documents which Jamie had passed to Avery on Wednesday and were now with me. I handed the lot to Tiffany.

Tiffany: good..... we'll commence on the paper work now.....
