Re: What is the life of a flight attendant

Ok being a pilot is not that easy. Why? I have been through the selection phase and stuffs. Let me explain.

Firstly , you will be interviewed by a panel of people. For mine that time was a colonel and a helicopter and fighter jet pilot. So there were 3 of them. Asked me various questions regarding interest and so on and so fourth..

Ended with '' If given a chance to pilot a helicopter would you do it? ''
Of course i ended with a politically correct answer..

Got through the aeromedical test.. had to go through atmospheric chamber to check for valsalva.

Before you start to learn flying.. there are the crazy textbooks courses.. learn how to read map. ( fucking clues how to read it. ) Than have to memorize all the airplane procedures.. how to do an external check , internal check ... every motherfucking single thing. Its really hell.

Basically when you reach to this stage ( your pretty fucked badly by your instructor ) than you have to taxi for your runway , greet the fucking control tower in the " Good Morning Control ! This is Alpha Nine-er ready for takeoff. )

You don't just say ready for take off straight.. you got to ask for permission you got to wait for your queue .. you got to wait for the fucking weather. ( all these are done in coded languages. Not the normal way we talk .)

Finally you take off. Than wait again repeat until you can land.

Finish liao must do after ops check. Go back debrief. FUCK!

I had enough of this shit. Pulled out the course. Reimburse the costs. Left a happy man.

Guys being a pilot is not as glamorous. Its mentally and physically demanding.

Why do people choose to be a Pilot?
I dare say its not the love of flying.

Fucking lan jiao. Before you go learn flying how you fly plane? Unless your father is a pilot than let you try.. but that would be a federal offense. So what love of flying , i like to be in the air all these wayang shit . 90% like it for the money and lifestyle of being a pilot.

Being a pilot is like an officer in the SAF. Your spec are the senior stewardess and your men are the stewards. Passengers are the people you protect. Lol.

Want to be a pilot? Think again.

Ciao.

For airline - Steward (assuming SIA). Go ahead if you like to be a waiter in the air. Other than that, I believe your training in waitering will be one of the best. From posture to manners to EQ training, they are one of the better ones out there. Once contract ends, you are basically back to ground 0. In the past, SIA ex-candidates are one of the better sought after recruits to companies, not any more in the current times.

For this post, if you know somebody in SIA will definitely do you good. Do be prepared that you get your fair share of ugly customers whereby your EQ training will kick in automatically or otherwise.

Airline pilot - This may be a better choice. Like one of the bro mentioned, recruitment for pilots are far less. I have only seen one such big newspaper advertisement for trainee pilots/first officer in the last 10 years.

If you still want to try for airline pilot, you can consider this option:

1. Take a private pilot license (PPL) to assess your general interest in terms of flying and all that comes along (higher risks and passion). This is not like driving a car. You do not get an airbag in the pilot seat (nor a parachute for that matter in commercial flying).

2. If you still like flying as much in the middle of your PPL, go all the way. Express interest to join as a commercial pilot trainee. You may hook up with the Lao Jiao there for a chance if you are really good.

I heard of late, pilots tend to die young. Most from cancer.

The rest is up to you...
Yes , thats very true. But do you know to personally fund a PPL you need 150k to 300k SGD . Depends on your learning rate and how many sorties you neeed. So TS I don't think a guy fresh from ORD has so much $$$ unless the govt did increase NSF pay.

Last heard NSF was paid $700/m for a full 1 year CPL in a combat role.

Oh ya.. even if the PPL '' lao jiaos '' do intro you. Its rather hard. if your that good , SIA would have already accepted you and they won't slap thier own face and hire you right. Later their HR dept kena left right left right from ontop. But EVEN if you do go in SIA pilot course. Your already -150k min

if I may, pilot nothing as glorified as a airline taxi driver which got auto gadgets to fly the aeroplane. the rumor about pilots mixing with cabin crew is false. u are pilot they dont want you to mix with cabin crew.
anyway, chicks dig the uniform and title. enjoy while it lasts.
