Re: Top Disco in Bangkok?

Does anybody have any suggestions for a luk thung/morlam (i.e. isaan country music e.g Jintara) place in Ratchada where one can eat as well?

Something like the Tawandaeng in Pattanakarn which I've been to - had a good time there in the past but this December trip, I will stay in Ratchada and unfortunately, I am not that familiar with Ratchada.

Maybe something nearby would do also so anything in Lad Phrao or Ramintra/Ekamai would be fine as well.

Maybe you can tell her truthfully why you wouldn't wanna go... you must have a reason why you are not a disco go-er. Or maybe simply cus you dun like?

The nearest that I can think of in Ratchada is actually very near Copa Cabana and Watana. Ratchada Soi 17. The small soi going to Watana mansions and then go further in for another 30 metres you see a small issan restaurant on the left if you turn in from Ratchada 17. Its right after Copa Cabana. I have never went in the restaurant before as me no lover of issan food in the past. In the past, me heard them play pleng luk thong a couple of times when I walked pass to the main road from my home.

Other places you can try out is Param 9 (Rama IX) TaK Mai. Must tell taxi driver Param 9 Tak Mai. There are a few issan rests around there. One thing to take note, they are not very classy. They are more suited for the locals and for that the ambience will be very "local" as they play the songs too. For classy ones, you don't really see them playing Pleng luk thongs. kekeke
One more is the restaurant/pub stretch of Ramintra. Many over there. You got to advance party down 1 day beforehand to find the place with the correct ambience.

Pattanakarn. Always reminds me of the old times................In actual fact, I would rather suggest you go back Pattanakarn from Ratchada. To and fro by the highway will not chalk up more than 300 baht in cab fare. And the ambience is definitely better.

Classy I don't need, I'm tired of "classy": I need "authentic" and "local". That's the whole idea of being in BKK and in a way, they have a class of their own too

Maybe I will go to Pattanakarn - I was afraid of traffic not baht.

Thanks SC - I always trust you to know the in-and-outs of BKK.

HI Bro,

For your kind of Issan style of resturant, I can recommand you a place in Sukhumvit Soi 36, juz near the foot of the soi(it's a resturant by itself quite big). The set up is the real authetic Issan side served with good Issan and Laos food and music. And the whole deco for the resturant is made of cane so u will feel as if you're dining in Issan plus they made all the staff dress in the traditional Issan clothes. It' one of the best Issan resturant I had been after been brought there by my client.

For your info,

Dj station is good club for dance but sad to say that that is a gay joint and u will get hassle by men all over the place. Thong Lor is more to pick up babes and chill out rather than dance.

Maybe you should try bedsupperclub instead for your hard dance, they are the more like zouk of Bangkok. Or you can try the underground disco in Khao San cos recently I had attended a trance nation party there and it was fantastic but lotsa of Angmos.

Thanks. Maybe it's the same place - I've been to Vientianne Kitchen in Soi 36. It's a lilttle different from tawandaeng though - the former is a restaurant that plays some country music - I am looking for a beer hall (dancing) that serves a little food. Thanks again for the good advice _ I will check out Soi 36 again - there's another restaurant there - Bane Lao - I've been meaning to check out for some time.
