you may be right

but since she added the word 'nua' (which means 'more'), i think the whole sentence means

"i'm eating now, i'll reach home in about 45 mins"

the word "tam" here means "about"... it's usually used by people from the northern part.. those who are from the southern usually say "khoang"

Wow, U hit jackpot, I am impress with your knowledge on their langague. It true that my gal is from the north. The way they speak is slightly different from the south. Din understand them initially, espcially the way them sms. It took me quite some time to learn and I am still learning.

I want to add depth to the meaning of "tam".

"Ta^`m" indeed in this sentence below means "about". But "tam" actually is also a word to indicate distance and standard/level, rather than just a word to mean approximation (which "about" is). Its original and more formal meanings are the former.

Eg. "tam nhi`n" is the range to which you can see. "Tam nhin xa" means foresight. "Tam ta~" is a compound adjective to mean heaviness of things falling from the sky, such as rain. "Tam quan tro.ng" means importance. "-Du? tam" means to have enough of a standard to do something.

But yes "tam" is also an everyday word to mean "about". People ask you how far is the hotel from here, and you could say "tam 3 kilomet" or "about 3 kilometers."

It is not quite true that "khoang" are used by southerners and "tam" by northerners. But "tam" is mostly used in the north. On the other hand, given modern communication conveniences and the tv, there is heavy borrowing and mutual adoption of each other's words. So the north-south difference is important to a lesser extent than in the past.

Thank you bro for your help. All the various translation given by the bros are pretty accurate. I am still learning all the times. The big problem is that my last gal was from HCMC, so whatever I learned from her is in southern tone etc, my current gal is from Hanoi and I have start all over again! Found out that Northern gals are more gentle than the South just like PRC gals.

If got opportunity, will buy you guys a drink in the pub. Cheers

Recently I know a viet gal from u-pub, her friends told me she is still a virgin and willing to sell it off at 3k. Told me got other ppl interested in her. Any ideas is it worth the money?
