It was my first day at work and I was told to report to HR at 9am. Took up my bag and press the lift button. It was peak hours and the lift buzzing chime kept ringing non stop each time the lift door open.

Together we ran outside towards the drop area, witnessing the security officer chasing every car that park to pick up passengers.

The lady took the front seat, I slam the booth after placing the bag inside for her.

Lady " welcome aboard , I am sorry I have to put you through this on your first day"

Me " is ok"

Lady " I am the PA for the CEO . U can call me CIN short form for Cindy . We are heading to collect the new car before picking up VIP guest from seletar airport."

She didn't speak at word more till we reach at the center to have the paper work done up before the new car was released .

CIN " u are very fortunate , first day on the job and u got a new car to drive, pls take good care of the car "

Me " I will "

I sat in the drivers seat making all the pre driving checks before signing the release form.

Me " ok we are good to go"

CIN " great , do we have time for me to head home ? "

She gave me the address and I did a calculation on the timing.

Me " yes we can make it "

CIN " let's go then "

I took long breaks and stay for two weeks in Malaysia. Usually in the remote side of the east coast area. My Hp was left in Singapore and i set up my voice mail that I will be away for period of time. Arm with a Malaysian mobile number and a bag pack I travel to the kampong and stay with family that readily accepted me.

After two weeks I would come back to Singapore to stay for three days before repeating the same routine again. Each time I return I would check my email and Hp to find offer of job asking me to be their personal or office driver. I never reply to any of them. During the two night stay I would work for car valet company offering drive home services.

It was one night that I recall sending this lady back home...

Lady " can I smoke ?"

Me " while this is your cAr I am just offering to drive you home ."

She lid up and puff away . I lower the window at the driver side.

Lady " I think I know you from somewhere...."

Me " nah , u got the wrong person ! "

Lowering my jockey cap and adjusting my polo shirt collar.

Lady " ha ha , u just gave yourself away. I am from HR . All these body languages u made..... We are train to read all these expression.

I did not speak.

Lady " come work for us ! Our new CEO from HK is coming over. "

Silence

Lady " we are looking for u, yr name pop up and was strongly recommended by your fellow peers. Check your email and voice mail. u never get back to us. Seriously I never expect to see u doing these kind of work. "

Me " what's wrong with this kind of work ? ".... I barked back at her

I could tell she was Stunt.

Lady " Charles right ? "

Even though with my semi white color thick beard she could still recognize me.

Lady " we are sincere, do come down to talk to us. We will give u a good package . "

I turn the volume knob a notch louder on the vehicle radio set.

She knew I did not want to be disturb anymore. The lady puff her last smoke and threw the stick out of the window .
