A bro asked me how the dance halls are like. I thought I'd post this info, for the benefits of visitors to Suzhou!

Seriously speaking, the dance hall is nothing exciting. It just happens to be something "special" about places like Chengdu, Suzhou and another one or two cities, that I make sure I show bros whenever they visit. For more action, the bars along 十全街 should be the places to go.

Basically, you pay RMB8 to enter the dance hall. There, the songs played alternate between a fast one with bright lights and a slow one where the lights are turned off. You pay tips for a dance hostess per fast/slow sequence. The tips for the old grannies are RMB10, while the tips for the younger ones are RMB20 per sequence. When the lights are turned off, the dance hostess will allow you to roam everywhere. In places like Chengdu, they can be even bolder, and there are small rooms for further action. Suzhou's dance halls are a lot tamer in retrospect.

I left out one important tip for dance hall fun. Always look for and select the hostess when the lights are on. Some really old and ugly ones look good under dim lights...

Hey everyone, I moved to Suzhou in the past few months. Thought I would try to help out.

I went to a bbs on yang zhi tang. Only one I could see, it had frosted sliding glass doors but you could see the girls inside. As I walked down (off the main road) they opened the door and within 10 seconds I was in the back and they had closed the front. (they closed the whole steel cage door thing).

Lucky for me she was probably 26 and quite cute. It was extremely rushed though and I was in and out in probably 10 minutes.

Not sure what to think, it all happened so fast. Is this a normal experience? I don't need to sit and talk with them, but some gfe would be nice. This was like rip down the panties the second the door closes and slap on a condom.


Also quick question for about the dance hall. This sounds like a fun time (at least once). Are they cool with a young white guy with no mandarin ability coming in? I'm a good sport and a good guest.

If you have no Mandarin conversation ability, the bars at Shiquanjie are your best bet. Your chances of getting a girl who can carry on a conversation in English are significantly higher.

Unless you can do cha cha, waltz or samba, you will hardly find it enjoyable there if you cannot converse.
