Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
[COLOR="Red"]What is What? Leaving or not?[/COLOR]
Ronaldo is still being non-committal about whether he will remain with the Red Devils, despite Wednesday's Champions League final success. Speculation linking the Portugal winger with a £100million move to Real Madrid this summer has grown in the past week. Ronaldo, who scored his 42nd goal of an outstanding season in United's dramatic win over Chelsea in Moscow, claims he is happy in Manchester but he may not have ruled a move out. The 23-year-old said: "I don't promise nothing, I don't promise nothing to my mum, I don't promise nothing to the supporters. "I want to stay, but the future... no-one knows. I want to stay. We are going to see in the next two weeks, I don't say I make a decision." Ronaldo is just one year into a five-year contract at United. Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes his side's hopes of wresting Ronaldo away from United rest on what the player himself wants. United have steadfastly insisted Ronaldo is going nowhere, but Calderon feels that the final decision will ultimately come down to the player. "The players play where they want. If a player decides to leave he is unstoppable, slavery was abolished a long time ago, nobody can prevent a player from moving," Calderon was quoted as telling Punto Radio. "If the player is firm in his decision, there is no one who can hold him back." He added: "I have always said that if Manchester want to sell him, we will ask about him, and if he wants to come and we can pay what they ask." United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, however, claims Ronaldo has no intention of leaving. "Without doubt, he is going to continue in Manchester. He is very happy with us, he has a contract and there is no fear that he will leave," Queiroz, the former Real Madrid coach, said on Canal Plus.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Champions League - How good is Fergie?
Alex Ferguson won the battle of managerial wits to secure his second Champions League triumph, but just how good a gaffer is he? Eurosport takes a look back over his remarkable career. Ferguson spoke in disbelief after Manchester United's Champions League win over Chelsea on penalties, saying it was "the first shoot-out I've won in a big game". The Glaswegian has collected so many major honours he clearly has scant regard for his three Community Shield shootout wins - two of those coming against Chelsea. Ferguson, or Sir Alex since receiving a knighthood for his first European Cup victory in 1999, has achieved unparalleled success in the British game during his 21 years at the helm at Old Trafford. He has never made a secret of his passion for European football, and his buoyant mood in the build-up to continental matches is often in contrast to his dour exterior as he goes about his domestic business. For all his multiple league and cup doubles, the 66-year-old has always strived to emulate the European Cup final he saw at Hampden Park in 1960, when a Real Madrid side at the peak of their powers beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3. His first taste of European success came at the expense of the Spanish giants, during his time as boss of Aberdeen, when he his side beat them 2-1 to lift the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup. He also temporarily broke the Old Firm's stranglehold on Scottish football, winning the league title three times during his eight-year tenure at Pittodrie. In 1986 he joined United, but it took him four years to deliver silverware, something that in today's managerial merry-go-round would surely have seen him sacked. But, after winning the FA Cup in 1990, and marking British football's return to Europe the following year by grabbing his second Cup-winners' Cup, the trophies just kept on coming. The league title returned to Old Trafford in 1993, and that was followed by the double in the following season. Throughout the 1990s, United were the dominant force in English football, with two more doubles. In doing so, Ferguson assembled a young side of homegrown talent that featured Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Gary Neville, as well some of the best foreign players in the world in Peter Schmeichel and Eric Cantona. After Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side made their own claim for greatness by capturing the double in 1998, Ferguson went one better with the unprecedented, and still unmatched, treble of league, FA Cup and European Cup the following year. The fiery Scot has always staunchly refused to back down from the standards he sets himself and expects of others, which has led him into many conflicts. He sold Jaap Stam, at the time arguably the best defender in the world, after the Dutchman published a book revealing his thoughts on the manager. He sold the world's most famous footballer, David Beckham, because he felt that the showbiz lifestyle of the midfielder was affecting his football and reflecting badly on the club. And, even now, he still refuses to talk to the BBC after the corporation broadcast a documentary portraying his agent son Jason in a bad light. After winning a seventh league title in 2001, he announced he would retire the following season, only to reverse that decision when the club fell so far behind Arsenal, who again won the double, that he could not bear to leave the club in such a state. As Chelsea burst into the top level of the English game courtesy of their owner's millions and won back-to-back Premier League titles, Ferguson was rebuilding his side. He still retained many of the same English players that had served him so well in the mid-nineties, and combined them with a new generation of attacking talent, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. This new side reclaimed the league in 2007, and after fending off Chelsea to retain the title again this season, Alex Ferguson's 21st year in charge at Old Trafford was capped off with their dramatic victory over the west Londoners in Moscow. The fact that he has no new plans to retire shows the depth of character, invention and longevity that make Alex Ferguson one of the most successful managers in football history. Below is a complete list of all of Ferguson's major honours, along with those of some of the game's other high achievers. Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Fergie blasts "immoral" Real
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has hit out at Real Madrid over their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo, labelling the club "immoral" in the transfer market. Ronaldo signed a five-year extension to his contract at Old Trafford only last year, but speculation has persisted that the player will make a move to the Bernabeu. Ronaldo's non-committal stance to United before and immediately after Wednesday's Champions League final has done nothing to dampen the flames of speculation, giving Real renewed impetus with which to continue their pursuit. But their approach has angered Ferguson, who is desperate not to let his most prized asset go the same way as David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy in previous years. "When you want to keep someone you work hard to do it," the Reds boss said. "That is a fact not lost on Manchester United but it is a fact not lost on Real Madrid either." He added: "Do you not think we've not had interest from big clubs around Europe about our best players? Of course, we have. "But they don't get into the nonsense [Real Madrid] get into. "[Real] think they can ride rough-shod over everyone, but they won't do it with us. We only sold them Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham because we wanted to. "Real Madrid have no moral issues at all. In terms of great clubs, Barcelona have far better morality than Real Madrid will ever have." Ronaldo himself has given off mixed messages as to where his future lies, although the 42-goal ace did attempt to put an end to the talk by saying he expects to remain with the newly-crowned European champions next season. He said in Friday's edition of The Sun: "My future will be clear next week. Everyone will be pleased - my club as well as me. "I think I will definitely stay here next season. Yes I want to stay. I have played five years for this club and I'd love to stay. "I love the people, the players are fantastic, the atmosphere is unbelievable, the staff are great. That is the reason why I want to stay." He added: "We won the most important trophies this season. I want to do it again next season, but no one knows the future." But Real boss Bernd Schuster is determined to get his man and despite having earlier in the week claimed he did not hold out any hope of capturing the 23-year-old, Schuster says he expects to see Ronaldo at the Bernabeu at some stage of his career. Schuster told Spanish television channel Noticias Cuatro: "Sooner or later, Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the white shirt. I hope that it is when I am still at the club. "If there is any chance of signing him, Real Madrid have to try it."

Man Utd No2 Queiroz tells Ronaldo: Real Madrid too unstable
Manchester United No2 Carlos Queiroz has made no secret that he has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to think twice about EVER moving to Real Madrid. Queiroz said: "I was at Real Madrid so I know what I am talking about it. Real Madrid is not like Manchester United. There are times there when you don't know who is in charge - whether it is the press or the club. "It is not like England or some other countries where the institutions are independent. Here, everyone works in the same direction. "He and I have talked about this. You have to remember, this speculation about his future is coming from the right arm of Real Madrid - certain newspapers which we know all about. If you check exactly what he said, he doesn't mean it in that way."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Next Season
It's going to be mega. I don't know about the rest of you but for me next season's priorities go: PL CL It's our chance to get 18 whilst on the way to 3rd title in a row. A chance to defend the CL is also there. - we're the oinly team to have ever won the league in its new format (PL) 3 times. - the European Cup has never been retained in it's new (CL) format. I think this is the most excited I've been thinking ahead to a new season. For interest's sake we're challenging for 7 trophies next season, all included. (In order of importance, imo) - () ending Charity Shield (Aug) League Cup (Feb) Super Cup (Late Aug) World Club Cup (Dec) FA Cup (May) Champions League (May) League (May) Just because they're all there, it would be fun to try for each of them, even if only 3 of them are important. We gonna need a big squad and i just pray that stupid world club cup doesn't mess us up in the league!

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Ronaldo latest - he's happy at United
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated he is happy at Old Trafford and "would love to continue" with the European champions. The Portugal star has been persistently linked with Real Madrid by the Spanish media and has not helped quell the speculation by announcing he would make a decision on his future shortly. In an interview with Portuguese newspaper Publico, the 23-year-old confirmed he would like to play in Spain one day but that he is currently satisfied with life in England. "There is nothing certain at the moment," Ronaldo said. "The press always make stories about interest from other teams, not only from Madrid, also from Barcelona. "On one hand it's good and means that they know your value as a player and think you can be a good reinforcement for other teams. "But my head is in Manchester because it is the club that, at the moment, puts me in the best condition and that I'm happy at. "Now, as I have said many times, only God knows the future. "I have never hid from anyone that I would like to play in Spain one day. It's a dream, but sometimes dreams don't happen. "I can guarantee that I am happy at Manchester United and that I would love to continue."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Real respond to United threats
Real Madrid have moved to placate Manchester United after the Premier League champions threatened to report them to FIFA over perceived courtship of star man Cristiano Ronaldo - but branded the situation 'a problem between the player and his club'. United boss Alex Ferguson last week slammed Madrid, irritated by the constant press speculation concerning a possible move, while the Liga champions declared an interest in the winger and coach Bernd Schuster admitted he was the main priority for the club. On Tuesday an Old Trafford statement described United's growing irritation with Madrid while reiterating that the Portuguese is not for sale. The Castillan club's president Ramon Calderon stated: "We have not interfered with the contractual relationship Manchester United have with Cristiano Ronaldo. We are sorry that Manchester, a club with whom we have an excellent relationship, are upset, because Real Madrid do not have anything to do with this. "Real Madrid have never negotiated with players that have an existing contract and are not going to do so, because we would not like it to happen with our own players. "I am going to personally speak with [Manchester United chief executive] David Gill because I want to make this clear to him and explain that we would not want to influence a player to break a contractual relationship. "We have had nothing to do with Ronaldo and regret, in the name of Madrid, any inconvenience that has been caused in this regard. "It is the media that has produced this problem and we are not going to enter conflict with Manchester United, a club that is a friend, and with whom I hope to continue good relations." Ronaldo has consistently appeared on the front pages of the Spanish capital's best-selling daily sports newspapers Marca and As, regarded in some areas as a mouthpiece for the club. Calderon added that he is still interested in Ronaldo, should United decide to sell - and that any problems that exist are exclusively between him and the newly-crowned European champions. "It is another thing if the club decides to sell this player," he stated. "What is happening is a problem between the player and his club. "Now we want to talk about our own players and see who we want to add to the squad because we must not forget that this team were champions of La Liga with a record number of points." United won the Champions League final against English rivals Chelsea in Moscow last week, with Ronaldo scoring the opening goal before missing a penalty in the shoot-out.
