SMU recalls condom promotion e-mail
Sep 27, 2017 04:04 pm
A condom promotion sent to Singapore Management University students on Monday (Sept 25) was recalled within an hour on the same night. The advert, sent at about 9.10pm on Monday, contained a 10 per cent discount code offered by online condom store Happy Mail on Durex and Okamoto condoms. Aside from tongue-in-cheek descriptions of the different types of products available, the mailer told students to "Study hard, play even harder!" Within an hour, at about 10.10pm, the e-mail, sent by SMU Bizcom - the business development arm of SMU Students' Association - was recalled. "We hereby apologise for the mistake in sending out the previous e-mails and are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused," the recall e-mail read. Some SMU students The New Paper spoke to were shocked by the e-mails. A first-year SMU student felt it was inappropriate for an ad like that to be sent out. "It looked like a really well-designed ad, like someone took the time and effort to do this," the student said. continue reading here : http://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/smu...ail-after-hour The ad should instead promote safe sex .

Re: SMU recalls condom promotion e-mail
My goodness. What is wrong with such an advert? Are we to assume SG uni students aren't sexually active? How to boost the birth rate in SG if even a simple advert for condoms in uni can somehow be seen as triggering and inappropriate enough to be withdrawn?
Sorry. Just came back from the UK. This would be non-news in the universities there. They even regularly have sexual awareness roadshows there and STI clinic ambassadors distribute condoms in uni to students as well as on clubbing nights. Apparently in SG "safe sex" means "no sex". How Puritan. |

Re: SMU recalls condom promotion e-mail
Sex enjoyed among consenting adults in a responsible and safe manner is nothing wrong. Too many self righteous souls in sg pretending to be whiter than white.
It's honestly more of a case of concern if one leaves university without any experience of physical intimacy. As EDMWer like to put it, that person is probably a socially awkward BBFA.

SMU apologises for condom promotion e-mail
Foo Jie Ying Reporter Sep 28, 2017 06:00 am Students from the Singapore Management University (SMU) had a condom promotion sent to them via e-mail by the school on Monday night. The e-mail was recalled within an hour. The advert, sent at about 9.10pm, featured a 10 per cent discount code offered by online condom store Happy Mail on Durex and Okamoto condoms. Aside from tongue-in-cheek descriptions of the different types of products available, the mailer told students to "Study hard, play even harder!" Within an hour, the e-mail, sent by SMU Bizcom - the business development arm of SMU Students' Association - was recalled. The recall e-mail read: "We hereby apologise for the mistake in sending out the previous e-mails and are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused." Happy Mail told The New Paper that they had hoped the e-mail blast would create awareness that condoms can be bought online. "Very often, we find that youths can be shy to purchase condoms at convenience stores. "As such, one of our key objectives was to provide them with an alternative to purchase condoms conveniently in order to practice safe sex," said the retailer. Some SMU students TNP spoke to, however, were shocked by the e-mail. One SMU student said: "I am not sure if everyone is ready for such a liberal ad." In response to TNP's queries, an SMU spokesman said the e-mail was recalled because it was not in line with the institution's rules. "The Bizcom under the SMU Students' Association occasionally receives requests from vendors and merchants to send out electronic direct mailers to SMU undergraduates for a nominal fee," the spokesman said. "SMU has rules in place prohibiting the dissemination of mailers by certain companies, including those selling alcohol, tobacco and condoms." continue reading here : http://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/smu...omotion-e-mail Steady lah SMU .
