Why do raids intensify before big events like Election, Nat'l Day, Public Holidays?

Having cheong FL, KTV, TN and others for quite a few years, I realsie that there is a trend that the raids do intensify before big events like Election, Nat'l Day, Public Holidays. Why ? Izzit that the mata, ica and cnb wanna impress the bosses that they have done a good job and have nice numbers to report ? Or they hope to get promotion ?

Now with the IMF coming, the gers are staying away from ktvs and tns 因为怕查. Very frustrating indeed

In Singapore, raids are conduted regularly and their frequency are not dependent on any upcoming or ongoing big events. Most raids are based on complains recieved, information recieved etc.....

In China, however, it is very common for raids to be conducted prior to big events. Reasons I do not know but heard that it is just a norm for such practise in their culture. As most KTV and TNs in Singapore are infested by PRC, it is very obvious that they have the perception that raids will be conductd more "regularly" since IMF is making way to Singapore very soon.

The current high frequency of raids In Singapore are purely coincidence with the upcoming events.........

Raids are not specially conducted to coincide with major events... In Singapore, there are not much of significant major events in the 365 days. Hence, if the AV really follow this practice, the KTVs, HCs, TNs, GL will be rather havoc and out-of-control. Wanna impress the Govt? I would say that's about 20%... 30% is that they are under instruction or media/public pressure (news, public complaints, etc)... And the remaining 50% is because this is their job scope, so besides conducting raids, what else can they do? Not much I guess.

Anyway, I think the IMF will not actually invite more raids from the AVs. This is 1 big event which the Govt view seriously. So most probably they will rather deploy the AV for more security petrols instead of raiding these entertainment outlets. *Cheers*

They will still sniff around but hold back their raids so as not to stir up the ugly issues when the important guests are around.

To second-guess AV is close to impossible...

but the logic in the above statement seem true... during the IMF week they will prob cut down raiding so it wun be on the news...

Whether it intensify or not, I am not too sure, but one thing I am sure is that, when so many govenment agencies are on the ball for " some big thing", the AV has to show that they are on the ball also, how can lose out? Later LHL says, you fellows not working? Then the boss of AV kena butter. :

AVs work round the clock mah, pretty much like NS where they got weekend duty, and public holiday duty. So in order to claim off-in-lieu, they must work extra hours to claim the off-day

I am certain that the only person who can answer your question is the AV. However, I have one or two (or maybe three) theories about it.

Theory No. 1

"Frustration". The head of the AV probably meets up with all the other heads once in a while to have coffee. The ICA head will boast that his team seized undeclared alcohol and cigarettes and the fines (and impounding of the vehicles) net in millions in fines. The MOM head will say that his team went in and freed 200 maids and put Singapore as a country which "observes human rights". As that in itself is intangible, he will claim the goodwill which will also be worth millions. The CPIB head will say that his team arrested T T Durai and thus prevented inflation from spiralling out of control and thus saved the economy from overheating. He will say that he made peanuts more affordable for the masses again. What can the AV head say? He can only hope to be transferred to ICA, MOM or CPIB. Out of frustration, he orders his team to conduct raids. In his opinion, why should he suffer alone?

Theory No. 2

"Jealousy". The AV head probably knew that he had to work during public holidays. Everyone else is out enjoying themselves. Rather than sit in his office and wallow in self-pity, why not do something about it? So, he decided that he might as well spoil the fun of as many people as possible.

Theory No. 3

"Coincidence". The AV head could be consulting a fengshui master on where and when he should conduct a raid. It is just pure coincidence that the dates are all near or fall on public holidays. The fengshui master is not stupid. He chooses the public holidays because the chances of more people going out and enjoying themselves are higher.

Nonsense, Sillypore is actually like China. MHA push down the directions to clean up vice to the police chief. Then directions propagate all the way down the huge inflexible hierarchy to the smallest fry on the street.

Ridiculous...how can Singapore be like China??? Have you stayed in China B4??
Raids on Vice activites such as Gambling, Drugs and Soliciting for Sex etc do not intensify during such big events in Singapore.....More on Security measure etc.....MHA do not need to push down any directions as it is already within the job scope for each and every specialised branch such as the antivice, CNB, GSB etc......
in the SPF to perform their duties with/without big event
