Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Teo Ser Luck, said that about 10% of undergrads go on to start their own business even though about 80% said that they are interested to do so.
He emphasised that the government wants to help Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) grow big and provide help by streamlining daily operations or taking advantage of automation.
Mr Teo said that there are a variety of government grants, initiatives and scheme available and that they are committed to building a environment which nurtures entrepreneurs.
He encouraged SMEs to think big, saying that SMEs and start-ups help to boost the economy.
To help our SMEs further, the government is attempting to open up the world market and help businesses expand internationally.
Pointing out the benefits of the various government scheme available, Minister Teo said that there are many more programs available to SMEs and start-ups here compared to the rest of the region but he also acknowledged the confusion in some of these so the government is working to streamline them further as well.
