Sudden Craving For Pork Ribs Soup
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Quote: http://mothership.sg/2014/11/censors...for-lang-tong/ Lang Tong, a new local thriller will make its world premiere at the upcoming Singapore International Film Festival on Dec. 13, 11.30pm at the National Museum of Singapore. The film is directed by Sam Loh, his second feature after 2004’s Outsiders, which was initially selected to debut at the festival a decade ago but was pulled out after he did not agree to screen it with cuts. Hence, when Lang Tong, which means “nice soup” in Cantonese and partly inspired by Takashi Miike’s torture porn cult classic Audition (1999), was passed uncut by censors, it was an outcome that caught Loh by surprise, he told The Business Times on Nov. 28, 2014: “To be honest, I really didn’t expect it to be passed, (so) I guess you can say that censorship here has changed a bit from 10 years ago when I made Outsiders.” Loh revealed that he would have taken the film to overseas film circuits if it had been banned in Singapore. Conceived and written seven years ago, the film’s sex and nudity is integral to the plot. It is about a remorseless serial womaniser and con man, who meets an alluring and well-to-do woman who makes a wicked bowl of pork rib soup, has an affair with her younger sister instead and things take a few murderous turns. Daring newcomer actress, pageant winner and a hot favourite of the online forums, Angeline Yap, was selected for the role of the younger sister after countless actresses were auditioned. The actress has even put up a Facebook post explaining why she took on the role, which has raised some eyebrows: Lang Tong will be screened at the National Museum of Singapore on Dec. 13 at 11.30pm. Tickets at S$12 available from Sistic. For more details, check www.sgiff.com. pork ribs.jpg Attached Images
