Security tokens not packed in open: DBS

A member of the public sent in a photo of what appeared to be DBS security tokens being packed at a void deck, but DBS says the boxes photographed are empty and that it has a stringent process for handling tokens. A concerned member of the public sent Channel NewsAsia this photo, taken Thursday (Oct 30), of a group of women packing what appeared to be DBS security tokens.

SINGAPORE: The sight of what appeared to be DBS Bank security tokens being packed at a void deck at Block 349, Ubi Ave 1 raised eyebrows on Thursday (Oct 30). One member of the public was so concerned, he sent a photograph of the scene to Channel NewsAsia.

The person, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he saw "a bunch of aunties" packing the devices. He noted they were casually dressed and that there was visible security presence.

“Shouldn’t security tokens be handled with more care? Should they be packed in a public area, without access control?” he wrote.

In response to queries on the photo, DBS said the boxes being packed were actually empty. "We do have a stringent process when packing the actual tokens and they are handled securely," said a DBS spokesperson said.
DBS security tokens are used for authentication procedures for online transactions. To prevent fraud, the bank generates a one-time password for customers and transmits this via the device, before they can log their iBanking accounts. :kma:
