Among those rescued, one person suffered a bone fracture and another was not fully conscious, the agency said as rescue efforts continued Friday night. The CGA said the RV Ocean Researcher 5 may have run into a reef when it was sailing 3 nautical miles southeast of Guoye in Penghu Friday afternoon. Forty-five people on board were stranded after the ship tilted toward one side and began to take in water. The ship sank at 8:11 p.m, and many of the people on board took to rubber rafts to row to safety, the agency said. The Coast Guard, the Navy and the National Airborne Service Corps under the Ministry of the Interior were all contributing to the rescue efforts. The 2,700-ton RV OR5, with a maximum speed of 12 knots, falls under the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Applied Research Laboratories.
