SINGAPORE: A motorist who was involved in a fatal accident along the Central Expressway (CTE) last August will be charged in court on Friday.
The 34-year-old driver faces charges for dangerous driving which resulted in four deaths, and driving under the influence of drugs.
Amend the traffic laws, lah. Apply stiffer punishment to any motorist who consumes alcohol or drug and drives. A mandatory jail term of at least six months for first offender. No use to suspend driving licence without jail term. Causing death to road users while under influence of alcohol or drug should be classified as manslaughter, an offence jailable of at least three years. No use to fine the road killers.
Nowadays, it is still common to see motorists driving with one hand while using mobile phones. Make it a mandatory jailable offence of least 3 months for using phone while driving. No use to suspend driving licence without jail time.
If safety of innocent road users is paramount, tough law is needed.
