Even new citizen is fed up with grassroots leaders
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Even new citizen is fed up with grassroots leaders October 13th, 2013 | Author: Contributions New citizens at the National Citizenship Ceremony I am a new citizen. New citizens collect their citizenship certificate in a ceremony held at their local constituency. This is organized by the local grassroots and usually the local MP will be Guest of Honour (GoH). I was really looking forward to it but it turned out to be slightly disappointing because there was a sense that the organizers of the ceremony were far more interested in preparing for and pleasing the GoH MP than making the “clients” i.e. new citizens comfortable. For example, my wife was not allocated a seat even though I had registered her as an attendee (every new citizen is allowed to bring one companion). When we asked about finding her a place to sit, we were brushed aside because everyone was more concerned with making sure the auditorium was “sui-sui” by the time the MP arrived. My wife was so upset with the organizers’ attitude that she went home immediately and I attended the ceremony alone. This mindset of pleasing the local big-shot (MP) can easily morph into a habit of pleasing the government since the local MP is almost always a PAP man. Taken at face value therefore, LSS’s address does serve some purpose as a useful reminder of who/what is really important in the PA’s work.
