Inmates broke out of their cells and set fire to an administrative room in the Tanjung Gusta prison in the provincial capital, Medan, late on Thursday. The jailbreak followed a power blackout that also knocked out the water supply, hindering fire fighting, Deputy Justice Minister Denny Indrayana said. ''The riot was triggered by the lack of electricity and water,'' he said. Advertisement International Crisis Group senior adviser Sidney Jones said 10 terrorism suspects were still on the loose as of Friday. Ms Jones said the most significant of those suspects was Fadli Sadama, 31, who was arrested in 2010 in Malaysia after trying to buy guns on the Thai-Malaysian border. Fadli was also suspected of being involved in a bank robbery in Medan in August 2010 in which a police officer was shot dead. The robbery was designed to fund a terrorist training camp sponsored by Abu Bakar Bashir in Aceh. Fadli was also linked to a number of other robberies over the past decade. Thirty-eight of more than 100 inmates who escaped had been recaptured, Medan police chief Nico Afinta said. Five people, including two prison guards, were found dead with severe burns, Mr Afinta said. Mr Indrayana said the prison was designed to house 1054 inmates but 2600 people were interned there at the time of the riot.
