Some Advice needed:
Dear Bros and Sis,
Just want to share about some stuff and ask your advice. I just got back home from an overseas trip and Last night, at about 1am, some "legal" debt collectors turned up at my place, and apparently, they were sent by my ex gf, (my previous post), before i carry on, i just wish to say that i DO NOT owe her a single cent. The debt collectors created quite a nuisance outside my house, and my elderly mother, in her rush to open the door, slipped down the staircase and she's currently warded in the hospital, she fractured her left wrist, and a suspected slipped disc. My sister answered the door, and told these clowns that i was overseas and despite that, these debt collectors refused to leave unless they saw me. My sister slam the door in their face and she called the police, apparently, if you say that it's a loan shark outside your door, they take only 4 minutes to appear, apparently, the police man says that it is a legal debt collection company so they are not loan sharks. My sister sent my mum to the hospital. to cut the story short, i would need any constructive advice from the bros and sisters here, 1) the debt collector says that there is an IOU, which i asked for a copy, and it's a fake document, i didnt sign anything with my ex gf. but still they say that, as long as my nric and full name is inside, they would take up the case, i am like wtf, which ex gf wont know her ex bf full name and nric? Question is, can i lodge a police report? and what would they do? Or is there any other action i can do? i am planning to install a CCTV camera outside my door. Once again, I DO NOT owe her a single cent, i have heard horror stories of these legal loan sharks creating a lot of stress and trauma for ppl, and i do not wish for my family to go through it.. what should i do? What can i do? The last i heard, she is expecting, shot gun, from the guy which she two timed me for.. maybe she needs funds fast but this? this is so darn low!

Re: Some Advice needed:
No point going to the Police coz already stated they are legal debt collectors. My ex business partner kanna the same problem frm an unpaid invoice which was in dispute. What we did was to get the contact of the company & went down personally to talk to the "boss". I'm not sure about the company handling yr case, but for her case, the man in charge was fierce looking & full of tattoos but surprising very good in his ang mo & well verse in law. Frm the memorabilia & certificates on the walls I suspect most of them are retired former POs. Anyway, we explained nicely to him our situation & gave him all our supporting documents. He gave us good advice on how to protect ourselves & infact offered to help us but we have to settle the amount first as apparently according to SG law, even if goods no show or defective, one has to settle all invoices before claiming opposite party. If you are very sure you have not done anything wrong nor sign any stuff before, & if they are really legal debt collectors, you shld have no problem settling the case coz the folks really know the limits of the Law... trust me they do...

After making the police report you can try going down to the debt collection company and warn them that you have reported the matter to the police about the forgery (show them or give them a copy of the police report) and ask them not to bother you further I dun think they will want to get involved in a police case. |

Re: Some Advice needed:
To show u mean business. Hire lawyer and sue them for harrassment. Also, file report on id theft and forgery. That way police will have to check. If not file case with court ans have judge to order police to investigate. In meantime, install cctv for possible loanshark activity.

Re: Some Advice needed:
if they are legit loan collectors , go to their office and speak to the person in charge .Explain and also understand the situation from the legit loan company . From there you will be able to handle the matter properly . Stay calm and collected .

Shown the "documents" that they have to my lawyer, and he says that legally, they do not have grounds. what these ppl do is that they feed on others fear, do what the loan sharks do. I have noticed 2 new scratches on my car.

Re: Some Advice needed:
well, my suggestion is to seek a lawyer, ask for their professional advices.
as long as u did not deal with any documents with the debtors then law should be by your side. if possible go to the debt collector with the lawyer and talk things out. |

Re: Some Advice needed:
Braddahs, I think there is more to the story maybe than what the braddah is disclosing. Can we get more information braddah? If you already told us everything I think getting SGPD to help is best idea.
Also, watch all of the videos. They show the collector will not pursue unless they have documents. One punjab braddah looks really mean, and he said his collection success rate is 100%. Punjab braddah looks like he can wrestle an elephant so big.

Re: Some Advice needed:
Bro Stud00,
If you truly did not owe your ex-gf any single cent, then you should go police lodge report and take up a civil suite against her for harassment. If you did borrow money from her and did not pay her back, then you are a faudulant debtor and the law have no power to enforce the payment back if there is no documents proof of the so called money loan, borrowed etc As for the Legal Debt Collector, you can't get police to arrest them, but if they are causing disturbance, you can call police to get them to disperse them if they are causing nuisance to you and your family. If the debt collectors don't damage or deface your door or gate or property, the can't be charge for anything. If they do damage say damage your gate, it is considered mischief. For that if you can proof it, you can take up civil suite against them and make a claim for repairs etc. All these action still require you to lodge a report, take the report to subordinate court and lodge a complaint and proceed from there. Mind you, these process takes alot of time and energy and all the documents need to be properly filled and in sequence. That's about all the avenue open to you at this point from what i know. It sucks but that how the criminal law and penal code work. Hope these help
